any pet rat folks out there?

I love, love, love ratties! Haven't had any since my DH and I first got married about 13 years ago. Miss having them terribly - we actually were breeding them for a while when we were dating. My DH's favorite rat was a little thing and she used to lick his nose every time he held her. I'm an animal nut and am trying desperately to keep it in check so my DH doesn't think I've gone off the deep end! We finally own our own home (10 months now!) and sad to say I think he's getting a little grumbly... we've "rescued" a guinea pig (who is absolutely amazing and changed my entire perception of them - only fuzzy creature I didn't really like), one rabbit a couple months ago who is still having major fear issues, and another rabbit last night as a companion for the scary cat one. That is of course aside from the family dog and all the chickens in the yard!

Another sign of my "madness" is I could totally have some rats and mice, fish, and some reptiles/amphibians. I'd love to have a smaller (rosy boa or ball python) snake and some frogs (red eyed tree frogs to be specific). Am I insane or what?!

The sad part is, I know people look at all my critters and go "wow, you have 21 animals!" while to me I count the chickens as a flock so they're only "one" so I only have 5.

Just sold 3 of my last 4 (still have the big black one and unless a really nice home offers I'm keeping him).

Took them to the local livestock auction thinking I'd get maybe a dollar a piece. They ended up going for almost $10 each

Haven't had a pet rat, but the closest are hamsters. The syrian types. When we walk by their cages, they all get off their wheels, squeak and jump up and down on the front glass to be taken out. LOL Luckily they are all potty trained. Silly rodents!

Rats are really something different when it comes to Rodents as pets. I have had hamsters, mice, and gerbils but didn't have rats until my daughter wanted one. Never knew what I was missing out on. All my other critters would tolerate being held and all. But I never had any actually ask to be picked up, try to get my attention when it was play time and that sort of thing. We ended up getting a female to go along with the first who was a male and they had a litter. We found homes for all of them and then kept them separated but in the same cage (really big cage) when they got older the female got tumors and died in my lap she was very sweet right to the end. the male started having some health problems as well. never did figure out if it was problems with sight or what but he started biting me if I reached in to his cage. then immediately run to the door to be picked up. I really think he was going blind and could not tell it was my hand coming at him or something but he drew blood several times. eventually he passed on and we have not gotten anymore since. For me they are much closer to being like a cat or dog then a hamster or gerbil.

We have a pet rat name Lucky. My Little brother saved him from a life of being a lab rat! We just love him! He's awesome! Heres a pic... Its sideways! I fixed it, but it still downloads wrong here!
