Just curious if anyone out there is flying their pigeons? I free fly my pigeons everday, barring rainy days, day after storms and during heavy hawk attacks. If you have never let your pigeons out I recommend it. Even non flying breeds will put on a show outside.

I fly mine... rain or shine... actualy some love the rain, they stay on the roof and have a shower.

I try to sneak them out when the hawks haven't been around for a few days. They love to fly around and also love to get on the ground and peck and strut around. So enjoyable. They are busy, busy birds.

Yep over here in midwest/southern US the hawks are insane. I try not to fly mine after rain, the hawks seem to go hunting after the rain stops. But I also realize that its just part of nature (hawks eat pigeons). I can always replace them with more. WHat breeds do you guys fly? Do you just let them free fly all day or do you train?

When I had a large amount of rollers I flew them. Although, many non-flying breeds can make a go of it...I think I will pass with my Indian fantails...the other birds might laugh at them!

Will be getting a few homers and will let them range around

I'll have to take some pics. I dont have any good ones of them. I have 4 indian fantails in a rabbit hutch I let out everyday. They act like little turkeys. They are fun to watch hop around. But they can fly, mine are under huge trees so they cat get above them. In india they said at one time unrefined fantails lived wild.

My lazy bums won't even nest off the ground! Well all but one pair! I have seen some fly...mine are just fat and sassy! My lavenders are the only ones in a nest box off the ground. Trees? I have heard of those things...not many in our neck of the well non-woods

I fly mine every day, rain or shine as well. Unless it's POURING down. My favorite time to let them out is when it's windy. The birds really love to rip up the air. They look like little fighter planes

I used to loft fly every breed I had. But the fancy birds are too easily picked off the roof by hawks, even when I'm standing feet from the loft. Indian Fantails are entertaining outside, and mine can get around okay when they try. One of my young ones snuck out yesterday and flew up on the roof. He was confused as to where to land, so he just hovered in place for a few seconds with that huge tail hanging down. Poor guy...
