Any Rabbit Breeders/Owners Here at BYC?

He's just 8, not 9. He's gone down hill unfortunately and will be putting him down before winter if he doesn't pass on his own. He's blind, deaf and starting to have hip problems, and won't make it through winter here unfortunately. He was a good boy though and threw the best markings on his offspring
Oh my! That's so sad! I'm so sorry to hear that! :hit

What is kinda funny though is that his picture pops up on Google's first handful of images years after it was taken at fair, it's one on the breed page for wikipedia. He's next to Joker, a Japanese harlequin and in front of Spring, one of his sisters from another litter.

I think he was 2 or 3 in this picture? He won Grand a few times in showmanship, but we had to switch rabbits for round robin because he was too aggressive for the less experienced showers

Thanks. I think he only won actual grand champion once* (I'll have to look through my plaques) but for showmanship he was the perfect bunny for me. Trusted me to not hurt him, which made it way easier to flip him onto his back and check everything for the judge

*in the actual breed class, not the showmanship class

1) How many rabbits do you own?

2) How long have you had rabbits? Or Rabbit?

3) What's your top favorite breed?

4) Why did you get your rabbit(s)?

5) (If you breed (or have bred in the past) Why did you start (or stop) breeding rabbits?

6) What's your rabbit(s) name(s)?

7) What breed(s) are/is your rabbit(s)?

8) Why did you choose the breed you did?
1. I now own 1 bunny but I've owned 4 before and I'm on my 5th.
2. 3.5 years
3. Flemish Giant
4. i got my first bunny because my moms friend was selling some and i wanted some so i got two girls.
5. i got into breeding for 1 year and i started because i felt like it i guess ( idk ) i got out because all three of my first bunnys perished.
4. the first two where named Sugar and Cookie ( lionhead lop crosses ). Cookie died of a heart attack on her first winter so i bred Sugar to a dwarf and kept one of the children for company. During the next spring they both died of GI stasis. Then i found Juniper ( purebred Holland-lop ). about 6 months to a year later she died of a hair ball (she was the tamest lived inside and helped me through a hard time ).

Aww! They're adorable!🥰 Thank you for sharing and answering the questions!!:D

My mom and dad raised rabbits for food when I was little. I started raising them 20 years ago for my girls 4-H. We had show rabbits: Mini-Lops, Holland Lops, and Californians. We also used the non-show Californians for meat, and kept raising to sell cheaply to up and coming 4-H’ers for show and meat for us. We quit raising them about a year ago. It’s a lot to take care of, but I wish we could keep raising for meat.
