Any reason I can't put conchord grape vines around the chicken run?

sparkles 2307 questioned whether the vines would pull down the run. Grapes vine can be cut back drastically and will grow back very fast, so if this is a concern, just cut them back periodically. My personal opinion is that if the chickens really like grapes and the leaves, you probably won't have a problem.

we built our run over a established muscidine (sp?) vine, put 2x4 welded wire over the top and weaved the new growth into the top fencing. not only do the chickens fertilize the vine but when it fills out it will supply shade for them.

How hard is it to clean grape chicken poo off the inside of your coop? ... I know its a bear to clean the grape robin poo off the hood of my car...

Darn it. I had DH dig out our Thompson grapes that were inside the chicken run, because I thought I read somewhere that the grape leaves were toxic. Oh well, what's done is done.

Well they are not toxic to humans (dolmades are one of my favorite greek dishes). Not toxic to goats either. I fed some to the chickens for the first time yesterday and they seem to be fine.

We have trees overrun with mustang grapes, but they rarely produce fruit.

Think I'll have to plant some Muscadines.

Yes! My thought is that my friends will be glad to help me clip and dig to my heart's content since the vines are always such a pain. We encouraged ours when I was a kid out there in Napavine tho, let them take over one side of our fence, and never ran out all winter .... mmmmmm
