Any Red Wine drinkers out there?

I second the pink catawba recommendation, but I also want to suggest Concord wine, specifically by Stone Hill Winery in Missouri. (They have a good pink catawba too!)

The Concord is my absolute favorite wine! It's too sweet of a red to drink with meals, but it's excellent with dessert or just on its own for sipping. It's the perfect wine for sitting outside on a summer night.

If you are looking for heart benefits, red is better. Muscadine is best. Muscadine and scuppernong wines are also much sweeter than other wines, so you can avoid the dryness that way. They are my personal favorites.
 
This has been an interesting thread. I don't think I've ever seen Concord, Muscadine or Scuppernong wine. Have heard of Concord and Muscadine grapes. I generally do not care for sweet wines but may have to try them.

Imp- Well maybe not Scuppernong, that name is scary.

Yep Imp that one threw me too. Although pretty much all of this info has thrown me for a big ol'loop. I haven't gotten to the liquor store yet but I've written all the names down so this weekend I'll have a clue what I'm looking for. Thanks everyone for your input

Post winery makes a great muscadine. If your in the south you can find muscadine wine everywhere. Little Penguin is a good label. If you get a red that is to dry just stir in a little sugar that way you dont waste the whole bottle. I know this sounds odd but look at some of the box wines that are out now. The ones from Chile and Argentina are very good. Because they don't sit in a bottle in the fridge they don't get exposed to oxygen and start oxidizing. My wife likes "Alice White" Red Lexia. I don't really consider this a red, I like Zin and Merlot's but they're a bit dry for a lot of people. It's medicine, if a little is good, more is better. Good luck and keep trying new ones, You'll find just what suits you!!
 
Not Sure about wine it Gives me a big old head in da morning but a hear a beer a day keeps da doctor away ..............so a 6 pack a day should keep me going good for a long –long time

Hey, coloradochick--sorry I haven't checked this post in the last couple of days. To answer your questions: the red beer is neither thick nor heavy, just a really good flavor. My hubby thinks that Nashville is about 170 miles from Seviereville. You oughta take a trip there sometime if you can. Seviereville, Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg are all there right together--one of the entrances to the Smoky Mountain National Park (I think that's what it's called) is in Gatlinburg--lots of nice hiking trails and beautiful scenery. Gatlinburg has a nice aquarium, too. Of course, there are lots of other touristy things to do there, too.
 
Try a blend. Buying by the grape varies so much year to year and label to label but blends are put together to taste good regardless. If people don't like red wine I think it's because they got a bad glass. Two days after a bottle is opened it starts to taste bad. Same if the bottle wasn't stored properly or if was meant to age before drinking. Green or oxidized wine is gross.

Here in Washington House Wine with the black & white label is sold everywhere and everyone seems to like it. I just finished reading The Billionaire's Vinegar by Benjamin Wallace and learned a lot about wine, scams and rich folk.
