Any Red Wine drinkers out there?

See if you can find wine from the Finger Lakes region of New York State. They have a lot of good sweet red wines. They use concord and niagra grapes. Also, there is a vineyard near Nashville, Tn. Sorry I can't recall the name now. They use muscadines in their wines. There is a store in Nashville called Frugal McDoogles for lots of selections. Try a Rose' or the sweet Zin. They will be pink and drink them chilled. Arbor Mist has some sweet wines, too. As for me, give me a big bold Merlot or Cab Sav any time!!!

Cheers,
Lisa

Sangria is a Spanish drink of wine mixed with fruit and fruit juice. So, yes, it is sweeter than just wine.

I am rather picky when it comes to red wine, so I'll give you my list of go-to bottles:

Gnarly Head - Cabernet or Old Vine Zin (about $10)

Castle Rock - Cabernet, Zinfandel, or Shiraz (about $12)

Casillero del Diablo - Carmenere (about $9)

La Vieille Ferme - Cotes du Ventoux (about $7 AND has a chicken on the label!!!!)

The best way to find the ones you like is to just try some! And if the store has the cards with the ratings numbers, use those to find the cheapest one with the highest rating.

A.T. Hagan :

I buy jug wines. Decent tasting and relatively cheap.

Carlo Rossi merlot, paisano, or chianti. Good with a meal.

.....Alan.

The Paisano is great, IMO

Have a jug at home. I like the chianti too...

Almaden makes a great boxed Merlot, both are a tad tart and slightly dry, but not too bad.

My dad has a vineyard and makes wine. I like mine a bit tart and dry personally.

A neat very inexpensive red - a Merlot is by Banrock Station - Description: A softer style of wine, this flavoursome Merlot reveals ripe fruit aromas of blueberry, raspberry and plum. These characters continue onto the palate, and are complemented by subtle, toasty oak characters.

Very tasty with a grilled pizza.

If we are discussing our favorites: Menage a Trois (I'm sure I spelled it wrong) . It is a cuvee of Cab, Merlot and Zin. You get the full body of the Cab and the fruit of the Zin and the smoothness of the Merlot. About $9.00 at Costco. About $13.00 at the grocery.
I'm thirsty!

Wow! No wonder I'm wine-challenged

Too many to pick from. Ok, I'm going to just go buy and try. Like you all said that's the way I'll learn and find a fave. Thanks for all the suggestions and help

Was JUST going to recommend that! I live in Northern NY if you can find Bully Hill wines, St Lawrence Red or any of the Rivermyst wines you'll love them. I AM a wine snob and I still enjoy these, great taste, fruitier than I usually like but they also are an awesome deal at like 8 bucks a bottle.

All awesome but don't you think Casillero or any of the concha y toros would be a little heady for a new drinker? What about a good ruah?? Washington State has a vineyard called Desert Wind and their Ruah is super cheap and VERY drinkable.

My favorite right now costs about $5.00. It's Wild Vines-blackberry merlot. However...it does NOT taste like a merlot.

I live in Oregon and have a friend who used to work for a wine distributor and gave me the following advice: Buy California Reds and Oregon/Washington Whites. His reasoning was that it didn't get hot enough in Oregon and Washington for the red grapes to mature and it was too hot in California for the white grapes. BUT, I have found a Cabernet from Columbia Crest (Washington) that is very good. So it just depends on taste and I don't know anything about wine from anywhere else.
