@BigBlueHen53 has just reminded me that we have been having a heatwave here and it has been terribly humid. She did not seem to be comfortable. I have just been reading though that mites can proliferate extremely quickly in the heat. It seems that it was the Northern Fowl Mite that she had in her hat. Apparently they don't infest the nesting box/coop. I don't know if the ones that seemed to appear suddenly on her body in that one area were the Northern Fowls mites or not. I was so horrified I don't think I took it in any details.
