Any suggestions for winning the trust of a nervous pea?

Okay so that is why mine don't really like bananas! Today I was out hand feeding my peas..I was hand feeding them some collards we got from a farmer nearby us. My mom used the leaves and the stems went to my peas. They really loved that...

I just thought of something...If you get a long head of lettuce that might be easier to hand feed a weary peafowl with. Since it is kind of long they can walk up and still be a good distance from you and just peck off pieces.

My peas goes nutts over banannas. You have to let them ripen almost to the point of being mushy tho, seems the riper they get,the sweeter they get.I squeeze 2-3 of them out of the peel directly on top of their feed crumbles and they become stir crazy to get to them before they're gone.

Hmm frenchblackcopper, that is what I do for my peas and they are never really excited about it...Some of them peck at the banana but they don't eat it all or rush over to eat it. Darn birds and their specific preferences...I bought a peacock one time and tried feeding the same exact food the breeder fed his. You would think the peacock I bought would be used to it but he would barely eat it! I guess once they come to me they get picky.

Cheese and bananas got mine eating out of my hand, now they are a pest and will take things out of my hand when i am not looking.

I sit with my peas and talk to them and sing too, the geese like my singing, not sure about the peas

but it does get their full attention.LOL
So very beautiful! I adore the white peas.

Hello H55, thanks for asking!
I was actually out of town for a few weeks which slowed down my efforts.
So, I've been trying offering him the little bite-sized bread pieces he loves on my hand while looking away, but he is still just not interested. But I have found that if I don't look right at him and I drop the bread pieces at my feet he will come very close to eat them. So I think that's progress? I plan to try MinxFox's suggestion about long lettuce - that sound really promising, I think.
I'm still pursuing all of the suggestions I received (thank you all!). And I am patient. So we will see...

If he'll do that and not just wait until you leave, then yes, I would say progress! Glad to hear it! Before you know it, you'll be wondering why you did this as you're try to get something done and he's right there 'helpling' you.

Well, I had to report on this since I got such thoughtful and useful advice from you peapeople:
Peggy ate blueberries out of my hand today!!!

This shouldn't be such a big deal, since most of the other peas already do this.
But Peggy has a special place in my heart so I'm very pleased.
Thank you all again for your advice!
