Any suggestions for winning the trust of a nervous pea?

Thats great to hear..Especially when its a favorite. Next hopefully he may be following you around. I am trying to make one of mine more tame. Mine didnt have much human interaction at all before I got him. So its a really tough go. When I first got him he was wild as wild can be. I sit outside and watch him so he is used to my presence now. He still gets nervous when a couple of people get around. But getting better by the day. My other bird is finally where yours started at. And for me thats happy day lol. Thanks for the update. I love a happy ending.

Since there has been a warm spell, I have been out reading to the birds. I do not attempt to sing bc my cat has made it known that my singing is unacceptable. She will attack my head. I have been making up any treats I find off of here and my Stancock is warming up to me.

that is AWESOME!!!! By the way....don't listen to the cat. Have you ever heard their signing? They are really not a good judge, lol.

I am going through the same thing my Purdy (Pyrdaeous). Patience is most definitely key and since I LOVE peafowl, I consider the time well spent;-)
Good luck to you!

, or at least, that corner of the BYC universe where we are endlessly obsessed with all things Pea.
You are right, patience is definitely the key to gaining pea trust.
Good luck with getting close to your Purdy, let us know how it goes.

I am still trying to figure out this forum (posting, commenting and such). May we all exercise our great peafowl patience during this time...:-D

I started giving my peafowl " white bread 4 slices " mixed with "peanut butter " one table spoon mixed with enough " water" (a spoonful). Mix with hand thoroughly and made small balls that are easy to swallow. and offered to them in a feeding bowl.Once every day at the same time. They started eating from my hand in no time.. When once you wintheir confidence, you do not have to make such nice balls.. I find this as their absolute delicacy. A very flighy peafowl may take a couple of days more but sure you can tame them too.. Peafowl lovers out there , please try this and post your experiences

That sounds like great advice! Most of my peafowl are friendly but only around three of them eat out of my hand. I will let you know they results of this.
