Left my name and number and address on the door of the home. It was 4 days before anyone got the note, telling me that no one had been by to give him fresh water....it was in the upper 90's all of those days. To date, its been almost 2 weeks, tomorrow will be 2 weeks exactly and still, no one has called to check on him. I know someone has been home because the car that has just been sitting for the past 2 weeks is now gone. I PERSONALLY think the poor dog is much better off with us, even if we couldnt get an appointment for him right away, I trust my vet and knowing his condition is not life threatening or causing excruciating pain, I chose to wait to see him.
What is so bad about asking if anyone else had used certain treatments for an ailment? I was actually looking for a non-toxic/less toxic treatment as opposed to the neuro-toxins they will give him at the vet. Hence asking about peroxide/borax mix. I've also heard nu-stock treats it very well, which I have coming, in order to try, if for nothing else, my rottie gets hot spots and i'll use it on her. But I also had read before asking here about the ivamectin, i HATE poisons, and I have kids so i dont like to keep them around the house. But rest assured, when I make that 8 hour trip on Friday, with another Boston that was dumped on my porch, literally, who is going to another family member who learned to love the breed from the ones i had/have we will be taking him to see the vet. So provided that i get me and both kids and the other Boston out the door right on schedule, we dont hit traffic on that long journey, and nothing bad happens, he'll be there by 4pm on friday. We're also on a call list if anyone cancels to get him in earlier even if my husband has to leave work early.
So excuse me if i seem a tad annoyed by this post, but I will do ANYTHING for an animal that is within my power to do. Your post was a bit condecending and insulting since you clearly do not have all the information and you are guessing what the situation is. Truth is this...all i wanted to know was if anyone had any luck with any other treatments of the condition. That is all, I did not ask for professional diagnosis, nor did I ask for someone to tell me what a horrible person i am for saving the dog's life.
Ohh and it's not about money either. The situation does not warrent an emergancy vet visit, had he been in dire need of attention, he would have gotten it right away.Yeah, I hate being judged by those who dont know me based on their own misguided feelings and lack of information.
I'm sorry again for everyone else on this thread, I hate feeling like i have to defend myself against those who do not know me, but I just can't help it, it's who I am. I'm sorry you had to read this, but I felt it necessicary to explain the situation so that perhaps this person would maybe reconsider jumping to conclusion and judging those they do not know without important information.
I came to the reasonable conclusion that you were not planning on taking him to the vet. You responded with a well written post that is *gasp* full of all the information that you did not post when you started this thread.
I never said you were horrible.
I never said you were providing crappy care.
I'm not even going to respond to those statements other than what I just said. Simply because I never said that.
As far as treating goes for routine things, that's different. Worming schedules that are prescribed by a vet (example Heartguard/advantix) or vitamins in the water or simple scraps/cuts/abrasions, all fine and good to treat in the home.
I'm sorry that your posts were all incredibly brief, never mentioned vet care, or that you were five hundred miles from home; leading me to reasonably believe that you were looking for a quick and cheap fix.
This is the last I'll say on the subject. I believe that my post was reasonable, just as you believe that your response with all the missing information makes me look like I was attacking you, and criticizing your animal care. Good luck with the dog.
Actually, I stated in my initial post that I had plans on getting him to the vet. My fault for not using the eact term "vet" but i certainly did give indication of my intentions. My initial post below:
Took in a neglected Boston a week and a half ago, he's clearly got red mange >aka Demodectic mange< Have been bathing him with medicated shampoo knowing full well it will not cure him or even affect the mites. Just looking to give him a bit of relief until his immune system comes back into line. He was malnourished, caked in mud and muck, hit by a car and had a broken rib that was clearly never treated. I just want something to try and help him BEFORE i go and have all of those toxic things administered to him. Poor guy cant be any older than a year....if that. I read a recipe for peroxide and borax as a dip....anyone ever try it? Thanks in advance.
