Any suggestions on trapping coyotes?

Killing coyotes is an exercise in futility. They are territorial. You kill one and another will move right in. Coyotes are opportunists. You need to make your chickens an unattractive option for them and more trouble than they are worth from the coyotes' point of view. You can get a guard dog such as a Great Pyranese or an Anatolian. Electric poultry fencing works well. I live in an are where there are LOTS of coyotes, but because of the dogs we never lose anything to them. I wish the coyotes would get the flower eating noisy peacocks but even they can't catch those.

Maybe you should check around and find someone who uses game calls and see if they will set up at your house. Let the call them in and shot them out. This way you can control when they come in and get the out of your hair. How tall is your fence? Is your fence skirted? a tall fence that is skirted will go a long way toward repelling them. A yote can jump but they do not typically jump to clear a tall obstacle rather to grab a bird off a branch.

LOL, I make predator calls, no need for anyone but her and a call and a good shot LMAO!

the fencing is four foot high field fencing, with barbed wire stranded on the top and holes on the bottom just big enough for the cats to slip through. so far the coyotes haven't gone through it since I built it last year, but the beasts coming into my yard looking for a new route is bugging me.

Those traps kill the animal so any dogs or cats are not safe.I would use snares(the ones that have the stoppers).Find there trails(they use the same trails),the easiest place to set the snare is where they come through a fence.

Calls run from $15 to $50 depending on the wood used.

I would really consider a hot wire if at all possible, and as was suggested, a better fence to keep them suckers out. Ive seen fox and yotes here slip right through american wire. Killing the yotes off is not that hard seeing they are not being shy in your case, it will just a take a few days of activly trying to kill them. The "urban" yotes around here are easily killed, the ones we hunt in the middle of no where are insanly crafty!

it ain't real hard to snare a yote by the leg just set it at the right height and loop size a number 2-3 coil spring trap works the quickest depending on your location I always get the landowner to pen up their domesticanimals before I bother setting traps depending on where you are located would depend on what kinda trap you should use suburbia is slightly harder then country
