Any suggestions when getting some light Brahma chicks? Going tomorrow

Hi, I just found a feed store that has some light Brahma chickies. I think they are gonna be close to 3 weeks old. I want 3 or so. Should I try for 1 roo with the 3? Do they make nice roos? I have all the other ones listed in my siggy that are all about the same age. SO new to chickens.

Is there any discerning features I want to look for that says pullet or any other features to look for that says good or bad genetics?

I just bought Brahmas today and am wondering myself if it was a wise Idea. They are the light ones and truly beautiful. I have just read that they lay small eggs. I always thought they layed med-to large eggs. Was I wrong or was the article wrong? They seem very calm and seem to be getting along in my new coop.

I think the under color of the light brahmas is supposed to be smoky colored, not white. So I think I would go with some smoky colored ones.

People say it takes roosters longer to grow their feathers in than hens, so that might help.

You might want to get one more than you actually want in case you get too many males.

My brahmas lay medium to large beautiful pink-tinted brown eggs.

Unless you can vent-sex them, it is nearly impossible to tell which is which until they are 8-10 weeks old. They are fairly slow to mature, but once full grown they are gorgeous birds.

The girls are sweet natured chatterboxes... the roos, well, I'm undecided. The one I have now is nice enough, but we had to have a few heart-to-heart talks about his possessiveness and such.

I think I'm the only one, too, since everyone else says their roos are sweethearts. They are just very large birds... the last one that got too big for his britches was just shy of 20 pounds.

LF Brahmas lay medium to large eggs. The bantam brahma would probably lay small eggs.
I had a heart to heart talk with my light brahma roo when he was young, but it was due to my mistakes not his. He learned the lesson very quickly and he's great now. Never had to even have the talk with my dark brahma roo. He's always been a sweetheart.

most of them are so layed back they bearly crow

mine started laying med eggs the 1st two years than the second year they were large eggs!

this I guess would have to do with the strain

Wow that is awesome to hear. I guess I will get 3? and hope they aren't gonna eat me out of house and home- hee hee.
