What field, or what do you like to write about? For fun, profit, to historically document, or fingers crossing hope to publish. Maybe just to share interests and encourage? Or you stuck with the almighty red pen and wonder if anyone writes beyond shorthand text. Are you a student of heart only, and leary/nervous of sharing?
Not promoting anything here, just curious as to why and what motivates.
Mine started above my shoulders before I was old enough to go to school. Vividly recall Sunday afternoons curled up on my Daddy's lap while he read the Funnies. I didn't like the way some of them were progressing, so I verbally extended or completely changed 'em.
It's true, everybody has a story to tell...
My fav this morning starts where it ends: an email from a writer friend whom is driving down for a meeting (pray) of interpreting his books into a movie. Maybe two. A brainiac, he was groomed to set the world on fire regarding all things financial. He narrowed the field to work in the stock market, and was pretty good at advising. BUT his grandfather, a pastor in a small town extracted a promise from him (my friend) to spend one year in the service of others, for God...no pay. His grandfather passed away. My bud exchanged his cars like I change shoes, bought a bigger house, his business grew. But the promise kept prodding. Never one to go half-way, he chose to sell off everything, bought a tiny weathered house in the town where his grandfather lived, had the little of what he wanted to keep shipped there, and left: for Peru.
From this came his stories, filled with hope and laughter and God interacting with young people getting along with older people getting along with and changing lives of those in villages. Refreshing and real, I remember taking a lunch break at work in my car, it was raining hard, and I was laughing so hard I was crying. Someone parked next to me and thought I was in serious trouble. Later at home, I sent out my first fan letter to a writer. And he responded!
He still writes. Lives in that little house. His parents, once over the shock of what he did settled down understand his commitment is based on a promise and covered by God. He never expected any of this. Kinda cool, when we choose to walk that path, it never is what we expected. But it leads us to where we need to go.
