My DH has been deployed many times now, and he HATES fireworks. It makes his PTSD flare up when he's otherwise doing perfect and doesn't have any problems, in fact, outside of the Fourth, it's really nearly impossible to tell he even has PTSD.

Fireworks are thankfully illegal here. But even if they were legal, we'd not be lighting them.

Do not call my husband unpatriotic, unless you'd like to go in his place for the next deployment.

I apologize, Im not trying to say anybody who doesn't set off fireworks is unpatriotic (I didn't personally set off fireworks- partly because I didn't want to, partly because it's illegal to do so without a liscence) I'm just saying that fireworks on the Fourth is basically a tradition and I don't think this holiday would be quite the same without them. Just my opinion, though.

wbruder17, I'm feeling your pain. My son was in the military and fought in the war so I am as patriotic as can be. BUT today is July the 5 and we are still hearing the fire works. It is a bit much at this point since we live in a small town the party started Fri and is still going on. I am caring for my neighbors farm and her dog is going crazy, my dogs are going crazy, every time my poor chickens go out they get the country pants scared off of them! I'm ready for it to end now.

I love fireworks... but I don't like what they do to my animals. My dogs where barking ALL night when ever one would go off close enough for them to hear over the fan and back ground noise I set up for them. The ponies where restless and I didn't even think about what kind of anxiety it was causing the chickens, they all went in to roost and I didn't think to check on them. If it was just for an hour after dark I might have been more tolerant, but we had fireworks going off in our neighborhood well past midnight last night and it has been going on for almost a week now.

Saying I HATE THEM would seriously be the understatement of the year.

I dread the 4th of July and New Years because of the fire works. I have extreme anxiety and regular loud noises send me into a frantic state as it is. Like if a pot falls too hard into the pot cabinet I literally jump 3 feet and it takes me at least an hour to calm down from the resulting panic attack . Sometimes I panic so badly from really loud noises I start to cry, kinda like the feeling you get when you tear up from the nervousness of public speaking. That's the best way to describe the feeling.

Soooooo, fireworks are completely not tolerable for me. My fiance loves fireworks and I love my fiance so I fake it the best I can. Last night I spent the evening about 200 feet away from the fireworks hiding in a clump of bushes behind a large tree, peeking out, just SURE my life was over, BUT I was calling out things like, "that sure was a pretty one honey!" from my leafy bunker.

The other thing I hate about fireworks is that 3-4 days of fireworks create the perfect environment for criminals to break into my home. There are so many loud bangs for days on end that someone could easily smash a window to my house and it would simply be written off as a firework. For this reason I cannot sleep at all 4th of July weekend. Any sleeping I DO do is accidental sleep with machete in hand.

Feel free to LOL at my craziness I know I do.

We live in the country and I dread the 4th of July every year. A few years ago our field caught on fire because some ignorant child was driving down our road shooting bottle rockets out a moving car. We spray and mow our perimeter and keep a safe distance around our house manicured and watered, but I free range my chickens and cows in rotating pastures all year round. Fireworks are illegal where I am and in most of the surrounding city areas as well. That surely doesnt stop the idiots that live in the dry pastures around me form setting them off. Last night, after drinking all weekend and spending the previous 3 hours screaming at each other at the top of their lungs, my immediate neighbors thought it would be a good idea to take there young children outside with them to set off fireworks less than 20 feet from my property. I went outside and calmly but assertively asked them not to set off another firework as it was illegal and dangerous and I didn't want to call the police. He yelled that he couldnt hear me (over the fireworks I'm not shocked) so I yelled stop doing those its dangerous. They both began berating me in front of their small children until my husband stepped outside and asked if there was a problem. They claim since they had a hose they have every right to set them off, apparently our Sheriff's Department disagreed. As well as my other neighbor who must have placed the call. I now have a new plan for all my roosters. Keeping them all and on that side of the property, just inside of the 20 foot setback the county requires. Hope they like those early country mornings after their late night drunken fits.

I'm a marine as you can see by my username, and I have PTSD but mostly around hospitals so I know what he goes threw, i's no fun. This 4th was my first time without fireworks.....kinda felt weird but at least I got to see some on my ride back home. I've always enjoyed setting them off and watching them, I do however feel that people should only do this on the 4th for a few hours at night and not make a week of it...it's no fun to be woken up in the middle of the night by some kids still setting off a million fire crackers that sounds just like gunfire this results in me hitting the deck and instinctively grabbing for my riffle. Around here we always tell our neighbors if we are going to be setting of fireworks so they can move horses and make preparations for their animals, this way everyone stays happy but however you guys like to celebrate I hope you enjoyed Americas birthday!!!! Semper Fi and God bless America!!

Completely HATE that my neighborhood has been a war zone for over 2 weeks.

I expect it will go on for another 2 at least. My dogs are terrified into hurting themselves and refusing to go out to potty. My Jack Jack a 120 pound mix is so freaked he hurt his foot and is on 3 legs now.

They were STILL setting off fireworks at 4 am when my alarm goes off for me to go to work.

I put the dogs in the basement and hoped my son would understand that he had to "babysit" all day.

They are illegal here as well as so many other places and I live close to a police sub station.

A law is only works if it is enforced.

I went to work with no sleep and I don't expect to get any for a while.

I HATE them also. The 4th has only become an excuse for fireworks and alcohol. That's not a way to celebrate the independence of this country. The men and women who fought and died for our freedom, for the most part, would probably not have enjoyed fireworks following their experiences due to the similarity of the noise of gunfire and artillery.

I live WAY back in the woods for a reason - I love peace and quiet. I have, however, flatlander neighbors who come up from the city for a week around the 4th and shoot off rifles and fireworks continuously. I have come to hate the 4th of July for this reason. Fireworks should be outlawed again as they once were in this state. I have no objection to municipalities organizing community fireworks displays, then we all could choose to watch or not, but to have them set off in practically my own back yard is just not fair. Where did my freedom go?

I hate them

I'm afraid of loud noises and fire, so they scare me

. Controlled ones at public events are okay, but people launch them illegally all the time. Next year they are being made legal in the state of Maine.
