Anybody else have a RIDICULOUS amount of roos hatching???

I'm not sure what it is...but I was thinking about it the other night & out of 60+ chicks I hatched this year, I ended up with only about 15 pullets!

And this is from eggs from ALL over the country, too! Not just my birds! I mean, I have chicks which were from Oregon, California, Vermont, Ohio, Texas, Florida, Iowa, etc and almost ALL roos!

Man...I don't know what is going on...it just seems like evry time I hatch out eggs, I'm getting all roos. My DH bought a dozen marans off a lady...5 hatched...guess what???? COCK-A-DOODLE-DOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

One of my friends hatched 24 Black Copper Marans eggs earlier this year. 18!!!! of them were males. They went to auction.

We purchased five 1-day old chicks in July: 2 Cochin, 1 Cochin-Cuckoo Marans mix, 2 Cuckoo Marans.

We have ended up with (now at 11 weeks old)
1 Cuckoo Marans pullet
1 Cuckoo Marans cockerel
1 Cochin pullet
1 Frizzle Cochin cockerel
1 Cochin-Cuckoo Marans cockerel

One of my last hatches I had 9 cockerals

and only 3 pullets

I had 20 cockerals this summer to grow out

They are either now, butchered as of today, sold and on hold or on their way to new flocks

It's the year of the Rooster I suppose at my henhouse!!

Ooh! Me, too!!!! Roos all over the place this year! It makes it kinda frustrating trying to buy shipped eggs because by the time you hatch them you've spent at least $25 and it seems you're lucky to get 1 pullet out of the batch!!! Let's look on the bright side, though - if this is the Year of the Roo, then next year should be the Year of the Pullet, right???!!!!!!

I know what you mean about hatching eggs!!! By the time you get them, and spend all that time and money on feed, only to find out your hard earned money and time has gone to 80% or better roosters....

It's just insane....
