Hi! I have this cute little Serama cockerel that hatched here and was handled a good bit as a youngster --- that has in the last month started SCREAMING at the top of his lungs whenever I pick him up.
He *acts* quite friendly on the ground and doesn't struggle to get away when picked up, just screams... continuously... and loudly.
The longest I've been able to stand it is 10 or so mins and then I have to put him down before my eardrums burst. He stops as soon as I put him down and doesn't run away or act frightened. I can pick him right back up and he'll start screaming again.
What is wrong with this crazed bird?
He'll do the same whether I pick him up once a day or several times a day.
It is the strangest thing.
Has anyone else seen this before?

Hi ChickyPooh! That's interesting. It does sound like the warning call.
This little guy only does it when I pick him up (and he lets me pick him up) and he won't stop til I put him down.
I have bunches of roosters here (6 or so from the same Seramas and 50 or so other guys) and none of them scream like that when I pick them up.

Thats really strange!!! Mine do it when they don't recognize some of the sounds that the feed is making or when they're just nervous. BTW you can call me Kendal.
