Anybody else on LOCKDOWN?? Hatch day Aug. 5th!

Okay, I started this thread a few days ago when I was very nervous/anxious about going into hatch days on my very first eggs. I thought I'd give my update...

Started with 14 BBS Ameraucana eggs (shipped): Pulled 5 clears and a stinker on day 14.

Pulled an oozer on day 17.

Pulled a quitter on day 18...

6 viables left to hatch...

Day 20 - afternoon - first pip!
Day 21 - 7am - first pip has hatched

and 3 more pips
- 3pm - 2nd hatch

- 7:30pm - 3rd hatch

- 9pm another pip
Day 22 - 12:30am - another pip
- 1:30am - 4th hatch

- early morn between 2am-8am - last 2 hatch!

All in all, it was about 24 hours between when I saw my first chick and when I saw my last ones. I'm not exactly sure what BBS look like as chicks, but I think I have 3 blacks, 2 that are kinda yellowy-silver (blues?), and 1 that's black down the back then fades to silver then yellow (splash?). Anybody know about that?

This has been so fun (and given me so much support) to read everyone elses "lockdown journals" during the last few days!

Congrats on all the new fuzzies!

I've gotta see what kind of eggs I can get shipped out next Monday for my next batch!

Darn you BYCers... you've got me addicted now!!!

ADDICTION....is that a word....nawwwhhh, ok since 530pm yesterday I have 5 chicks!!!! caught one in action, had camera handy and caught every min. as it came out...let me see which pics to put up...man all these baby business, is making my picture file fill up!!!!

Think Im gonna have to delete some...Im so excited!!!!!

Hi Guys!

Hatch is all over. Been going on for 3 days. Someone said having a baby may be easier. Sure would probably be faster. Boy am I tired. I have the little guys eating and sipping water now. Started with 25 eggs. Candled at day 10 and 6 were clear so 19 when the distance. One of them I didn't think was viable, but I wasn't 100% sure so I left it in the batch. As of this evening 18 hatched and are doing great and the one guy I wasn't sure about is a no go. Boy can they keep you busy. They are Buff Orpingtons and so cute. Thanks everyone for your support through the process. It's been fun. But now I need to go sleepy while the babies are napping. Hope to post pics tomorrow. Night All.

how funny nash....man I havent been so tired in along time....but tomm. Im gone all morning. Have a doctors appt for my procedure...then home hopefully before noon..come home all drugged up, wanting to see chicks...lol 32 might look like 132....

No luck gang only 3 hatched out of 10........

1 tried but didn't make it I have 3 healthy chicks and I'm glad to have them

ok, so i opened them & they all were dead....1 quit very early, it looked like a chick but about the size of a jell belly bean..the rest were all foe=rmed but quit im assumingg on day 18 when i moved them from the turner & brought humidity up. they seemed to have a lot of water in the shell + the unabsorbed yolk ,which i figured the yolk was normal being only day 18 ..all were very pretty

so i turned the bator off & really thought about taking it back to the store..not that i would seeing how i used it but still very frusterated none the less
than i plugged it back in & am gonna get the humidity back to normal & i had dh call his friend & asked for some eggs & he said i could have what ever was in the coop from today..so i went & checked i now have 7 more to set ( maybe more ,i thought about collecting till sunday)
these will be barred rocks,Buff Orpingtons & Araucanas/Americanas ( not sure which one but the eggs are a light green & they have muffs on their cheeks)
i guess i shall see what comes of these

ohh & they have some poo on them ..not alot just looks like some one picked them up with dirty fingers .. should i wash them off?
they are sitting on the counter in an egg carton. are they gonna be ok till sunday?

Can I join in on the fun here??? This is my first time. Today, day 19, I heard chirping .... THEN, I saw a pip.
Then, I had to go to work....
I'm home now. Guess what I have? I have a chickeeey! It is black, I believe it is an Astrolop (sp?). I got the eggs at the local Farmer's Market, and asked her what kind of chickens she had. She said RIR and black Astrolops. Then, I got another dozen eggs from a gal at work. She got from her in-laws. She wasn't sure of the kind. BUT, there is one really really dark egg in there. I put in the last dozen 48 hours after the first batch.

I tried candleing, but didn't do well. I threw out a couple that I knew were clear on day 8. Then, on Day 18 I tossed a couple more weepy ones. I think I ended up with about 30 left.

I will post a picture in the AM. I have 5 pips and 1 chick! Now on day 20.
