It really is a matter of preference, and depends on if your birds are laying!

So even though they are in an incubator the temperature in the room matters? That stinks. That means this summer will be hard as well. Unless I incubate in the basement.

Yes, it matters some... the main thing is as long as there is no draft around the incubator. The reason we are waiting till the weather warms up, is for the brooder's sake, not the incubator's.

I was going to wait till spring, but a hawk got my rooster and now I have totry and hatch some of the eggs!
Today we built Missprissy's incubator and are testing the temps.
Anyone know how long hens are feritle? How long can I keep collecting eggs? I will gather a few more...

Not sure I will enjoy having them in the house for so long...but there was nothing else to do.

DH didn't want me to hatch any this year.
But silly me, I 'volunteered' to do some test-hatches for some nice folks on BYC

Thankfully, I have homes for the ones we can't fit, if I have a wonderfully successful hatch

Oh I love, love, love the volunteer idea! We are, after all, living in the Volunteer State! And I have a couple of people interested in some Silver Spangled Hamburgs as soon as I have extras. I planned on ordering some SSH pullets this spring but I think I should get some eggs also.

Yup, we do live in the volunteer state

I haven't gotten around to telling Dh about my volunteer spirit though. It will become obvious when I start to clean up the bator tomorrow
