Anybody ever own an African Clawed frog?

They like to get under rocks,so they don,t float. We had a rock propped so the frog could get under & float up at an angle. We faced it towards the T.V. Looked just like it was watching it's favorite show.Hours of fun to watch!(T.V. & frogs!)

I had two albino ones my neighbor gave me when she moved and they were so cool. I say get you some!!!

I miss mine. I LOVED THEM! They are so fun to watch because they mostly dwell on the bottom ( well the dwarfs did ) and then they would dash up for air and then dash back down.

My grandma said that out of all our animals that she had to babysit they were her favorite

I have seen them at Walmart and Flea Markets. I didn't realize they could live for so long. Do they ever leave the water...like to sun themselves?

Lets see, xenopus lavius, I think. 30 some odd years ago, my DH was a lab assistant to a biology prof who was doing a study on raising them, They were kept in floating cages in small ponds. My husband had to feed them daily and observe and record observations. They were inportant because they they were the only ones that would breed in captivity and eat a prepared chow. I'm not sure if they were thinking food source or science projects. We weren't really surprised when some years later they started showing up in the pet stores.

Lets see they are fully aquatic by choice- I've had 2 standered sized greens, 1 dwarf green, 2 standard size albinos.

They are sensitive to complete water changes- I would recommend doing the 30% each day for four days rather tehn a transfer-

they can escape tanks if there are any holes at the top

They are lots of fun to watch feeding.

they are easy to care fore- they will breed in your tank. The fish will eat the eggs.

They will eat anything smaller then their mouth. Or try...

I've had 4 Albino ones..... the one I had the longest lived for 5 years. It grew to be the size of a closed fist. I have to say that I found them extremely hard to care for. If you are thinking they are like a fish you are WRONG. They are very messy and need frequent water changes. you can't use filters cuz hey are sensitive to vibrations. If they escape they will die because they MUST stay in water or they shrivel up and they are EXPENSIVE to feed (from my experience). I had to go out every week and buy 25 medium feeder fish, because mine was "too good" for shrimp pellets....... he was spoiled initially and man did I regret that!!!! haha. Good luck!
