Anybody getting $4 / doz. for eggs?

There was a Modern Marvels show on History channel about eggs, and they featured a guy getting $8 dozen for pasture raised organic eggs, and he has a waiting list for them and says he can't produce enough! (in California)

So try it! If your area will support that price, more power to you.

I am just starting to sell eggs. I am selling them at $2.50 a dozen.
I looked at what others around me were asking and it ranges from $2 to $3 a dozen in my area.

here in marin/bay area i saw some eggs at the farmers market for $8 a dozen and they sell out about 1-2 hours BEFORE the market even closes...i have friends that head there EARLY in the rain to get their eggs for $8 because they are afraid they will sell out.

one of the reasons i hope to get some laying hens...i hope to get enough eggs for the family as well as give some to family and friends.

Has anyone had issues/problems with an "Honor System" at the end of a drive way? I have a steel lock box that I can safely secure at our driveway entrance and a cooler that can be bolted to our 8 inch wood fence posts. We would like to do this to keep people from driving up to the house. We have a lot of excess eggs which wasn't a problem when we had our 3 feeder pigs but we butchered them two weeks ago.

We live in a rural area outside Salem, Oregon and would hope that it won't be an issue.

I have never tried it but had read where some people have and it has worked out just fine. I don't think I wanna experiment with that.

The only honor system that I participate in is when my customers give me $10.00 - $40.00 at one time and I apply it to their credit and I deduct whatever amount for the eggs that they need for that particular week. This has been working great for me and my customers for many years.

We get $4 a dozen, plus a .50 carton deposit to encourage them to resuse the cartons. Our eggs are medium brown eggs, but we live in Portland which is very hippy-ish. Ours are not organic either

I wish that I could sell my eggs for $4.00 per dozen.

That's kinda why we didn't move back to Louisiana when we moved (well, also because we found a wonderful place here in the Sierra Nevada mountains). I remember when we lived there before, minimum wage out here was $7.50 while it was still $5.15 in Louisiana, though the cost of living was not vastly different (i.e., rent was about $100 a month cheaper in Louisiana, but landlords there don't pay your water, sewer & garbage like they do here in California, and we actually ended up paying MORE than if we'd rented in California--and milk was $4.19 a gallon in Baton Rouge when it was $1.76 a gallon in Sacramento). Unfortunately, states where employees are paid lower wages than the rest of the country have a harder time getting a fair market value for the goods produced on their farm. If I sold my eggs for $2 a dozen, I wouldn't even cover the cost of feed, much less Corid, vitamins/electrolytes, new feeders, bedding, or any of the other expenses related to chicken-keeping. I would be losing money and could not afford to keep my chickens.

My chicks are still babies. I just paid $1.50 for a dozen farm eggs Saturday, delivered to my door. I don't think anyone here in Southeast Missouri is making a killing on selling eggs!
