How does everyone get their chickens to sit without the hens adding more eggs?
I was letting my 3 banties sit on 13 eggs a few days ago, but all the hens kept adding eggs to the nest. I ended up not pulling the 13, but pulling 34, I marked and put the 3 bantie eggs back for them to sit on, since they seemed to be having so much fun. I now have eggs hatching on the 27th, 31st and Lord only knows the day for the rest, I have them marked for the 13th, so any time up till then I guess. When I pulled the eggs from under the 3 banties, it was starting a second layer, if I would not have pulled the banties would have been sitting on layers and layers of eggs and I just wonder how they would have turned them all. (LMAO)
The bad part is I have always wanted Blue Andalusian chickens and I finally ordered eggs, that will be here this week, no later than Saturday. If they come before then, I would not be able to put them in the incubator, due to it being completely full (over 50 eggs). Hope these guys hatch on time. What would you do if they didn't? Stack the eggs, or what?
Well, I guess there is nothing I can do about that, so I am going to move the banties to the baby chick coop in the barn and let them sit to their hearts desire. That is if they will keep sitting after I move them. Guess I will find out. Until I can get everyone situated, I have marked the ones I am letting them sit on and have been collect the others daily for the frig, since there is no room in the incubator.
Borrowing would be good if I knew anyone with an extra, but hopefully these little ones hatch right on time, because my Blue Andalusians will be here Thursday or Friday, Saturday at the latest.
My little ee mutt hatched a day later than scheduled, the 21st, but was so cute I had to post a picture. I definitley know who the father is! He is in with the 2 week old banatm Modern chicks and thinks he is one. If you've never had banatm Moderns, they like to jump on top of each other. This little guy tries hard but doesn't get very far!
I had to be out of town when my Catherine started hatching!!!
But all was well with 2 of the 6 hatched when we got home! Now all 6 (2 Silkie/Barred/ Buff Orp mixes and 4 EE/ Silkie mixes) have hatched and are sweet little fluff balls and here's some pics...
This is Catherine:
This is her being quite upset that I removed her to take the picture of the first 5 chicks:
Karen your eggs just multiplied like rabbits --- the top says 36, the above says 38. Are you like me and have so many in the bator that you cannot remember or you just don't know, how many are in there.
