You might also try bio spot (it's a flea product) for cats. Put only a drop or so on the chicken. That's what my vet recommended, when I had a severe infestation.

When using Seven Dust 5%, remember to:
1. Use a mask so you don't breathe it into your lungs
2. Clean out the coop & vacuum all the crevices. Dust the coop, including the roosts, cracks, crevices, and nesting boxes.
3. Watch closely for re-infestation in about a week should any mite eggs survive. Retreat quickly then you should be in the clear.
4. Re-apply Seven dust about every 3 months as a preventative.

I recently found mites on my banty cochin. She's looking much better and getting better coloring in her face now that the mites are gone.
