I feel so badly for many of you, I couldnt even read all of the posts (plus there are so many). What I dont understand though as far as the length of time out there, some said 99 weeks. My understanding is they use your income to put you in a bracket that determines your pay. After your first 26 weeks, your inciome would be based omn that lower amount, and every extension would be based on the last periods income. How low does this income get, and how do people live on that anyway?

God help you, dont loose hope. There is a clear and present danger but in the end we all know who wins!

I agree with most of what you say here with one exception - we cannot put tariffs into place as our primary means of income. The more we tariff other countries the more they will tariff us. Much of this currency war started due to protectionism in other countries that we forced to accept our goods. Now the shoe is on the other foot and we are reaping what we sowed.

"Anti-business" has to be one of the most over-used misunderstood word right now (with perhaps the exception of the word socialism) People keep conflating the small businesses of 100 or fewer people who are the backbone of our economy with mega corps that have become global parasites with no national boundaries or loyalties whatsoever.

The mega corps are spending HUGE money trying to convince people that anything that helps the middle class or protects workers is anti-business. Henry Ford proved this wrong (and he was a bigoted SOB) He knew that workers who cannot afford his products cannot become customers. The other business owners hated him at first because he paid "too much".

The guy you want to hate is not Ronald Reagan its Milton Friedman. He won the dynamite economics award by economists for doing the most damage to our economy yet he IS STILL TAUGHT. He held a strict version of neo-liberal economics that was social darwinism at its worst. He is the progenitor of trickle down economics. Reagan was not bright enough to design economic systems.

I agree with everything. I like your term mega corporations. Just using corporations as I have done is wrong.

Ronald Reagan was a true figurehead much as George Bush was. Much like one of those dolls a ventriloquist uses. The big difference was that he was an actor by trade and could remember what he was told to say. Bush on the other hand required 6 years of training before he could deliver a comprehend able message. I only blame Reagan for doing such a good job of convincing some Americans that trickle down economics was anything more than a warm flow of you know what.

Those Mega Corporations are doing a fantastic job. They just got a bunch of their lap dogs in place so they can soak up an even bigger piece of the pie. The whole TP movement was financed by a Mega Millionaire that wants more money going his way. The level of manipulation is scary. It is a very well coordinated effort. I hope there are some people in the movement besides the supporters that have good intentions.

So which way do you want the money to trickle? Personally, I prefer for it to go wherever I choose it to go....I sure don't want it trickling into the hands of greedy politicians, who only buy favors and votes with it.

As for the unemployment, I'm 57, been out of work, many times, for short periods of time and have never drawn unemployment...Been self employed since '97, and scrape by, everyday, so, as far as the govt. is concerned, I don't exist, until tax collection time, then, I'd better have money in hand, to dole out the "Less Fortunate".

Goodness Royd. You have to think it is not ALL going to "less fortunate" a good bit goes to maintaining road systems and things we actually DO get some use out of. Self employment can be tough though. I gotta agree with you there, scraping by and then getting a bill at the end of the year...does suck lemons

Everybody has it rough right now. I will survive. Always have, always will. I'd personally like for all the money to trickle righ off the face of the earth and go back to regular old barter/trade, at least it's mostly honest living that way. Eh...I say whatever. I know how to fish and hunt, and build a hut

I believe the benefits have ceased for everyone over 26 weeks. Not just the 99ers.

It sounds like the benefits will be reinstated retroactively. The Democrats wanted them reinstated immediately to keep people in their houses. The Republicans said NO, it has to be paid for 1st.

So the Republicans figured out a way to make sure it's all paid for. They have agreed to spend the 160 billion dollars for extending unemployment, provided the Dems agree to extend the Bush tax cuts for the top 2%. It will add 700 billion to the deficit but it fits their description of paying for it.

It's not official yet but it will be. This administration has caved on every issue so far. Democratic party equals the neuter party. At least the people that are unemployed so their masters can turn a better profit will have a little money to live on.

By the way, I do think people should be taking any job they can physically do. If there are no jobs, even minimum wage then they need help and they should get it.

I've had 3 businesses in 52 years. I'll never do it again. Not as long as I have a family to support. The pay and the benefits tend to suck.

So long as I have my family, I am truly to the point I don't give a rats patoot if they take everything else. Just give me a dang box of matches and a canteen

I'm through with the stupidity of owing folks. I'll build an adobe on the back side of my parents 5 acres and call it a day

This really should be bothering me, but it's just not. I'm just sick of the crap. I'm tired of worrying about what next. O and all his goons can stick it up their nose, as can the rest of the lot of them. BOTH sides, are out for themselves.

You know I keep hearing this 10.00 an hour figure. Maximum unemployment per the govt website is 1300.00 a month before taxes. !0.00 an hour equals 1600.00 a month. I think that there are very few people turning down those 10.00 an hour jobs. probably good fodder for talk radio and certain news stations though.

Tax and spend more.......

Listen to what she said. The dems say pay benefits and the repubs say it has to be paid for by cutting taxes on the wealthy. That is spend and don't tax....

It is what the repubs have done every time they are in office they cut taxes and spend like sailors on shore leave and the dems get called tax and spenders! Well tax and spend beats the daylights out of spend what you don't have.

The continued insistence that the top will put more money into the economy than the bottom baffles me. If you give people at the bottom money they spend it. If you give people at the top money they invest in financial innovations which do not include things which create jobs.
