I would go with what your nurse friend told you re: the splinting. You can get terramycin (oxytetracycline) at most feed stores. I put 2 Tbls. per gallon of water and for 10 straight days.
Oh and best of luck with him. Keep us posted on his progress.

Thank you so much for all of your help, he is in our bathroom, with a warm towel undr him, in a "ball" to get him up and hopefully not have too much pressure on his leg. I already have Terramyacin at home. So I will get him that rightaway too.
