I may be ohiofarmgirl now but i'm aching to get back to my Pac NorthWest roots.... i'm considering a move to the Grants Pass area.. hows that for chicken growin'?

Hubby has been in construction sales (he just got laid off so nows a good jumping off point) and can work anywhere and i'm the farmer in this family so all i need is good soil and the shoddy beginnings of a hen house.. i'll spare you the details about how the mother in law in on her way to live within 45 mins of us.... so why the heck not?

love it? hate it? why? why not? we're looking for peace and quiet, good farmin', and oh those cool NW nights... the humidity is killing me....

hey Tamra! Fort Doom?? yikes!

are you closer to civilization or further away??? how are your winters compared to Portland?? (i'm formerly from seattle so the cool evening are calling me.....)

I am pretty far out of civilization... I can see the stars twinkle at night!
I myself am from the mid Willamette valley, the midpoint between portland and the Rogue valley. The nights here get pretty chilly compared to the days, but mostly nothing too much colder than light jacket weather in the summer. The main thing is how dry it is all summer. It almost never rains down here from mid may to mid october. there is almost no autumn or spring to speak of, 3 weeks at most. October to march it is the grey, wet, cold that looks so much like most of portland's weather (can't say I ever remember being there on a hot or sunny day). march and April are CRAZY with the snow, sun, rain, and wind, then it is practically a desert till all the leaves start falling in October, when it gets progressively colder and wetter until the week before halloween or thereabouts when it freezes for the first time. Unless you live high up in elevation, you won't get but 10" of snow (that sticks for more than an hour) all year, spread out over the 4 months or so from november to march. This year has been a bit off, more rain and snow lasting farther into the year than normal, but still mild winters.
anything else you need to know?
