Anybody setting today (3-25) or tomorrow (3-26)??

Day 20 for me today. Nothing yet. Temperature 100 degrees. Humidity constant 68% since lock down.
Interesting thing is that the gentleman I got the eggs from (Barnevelders) called and told me that others have let him know the eggs are hatching 2 days late (day 23). How weird is that!?
I am going to sit tight through day 25.

How early or late eggs hatch usually has more to do with incubation temperature than anything else. That said, I've noticed this season in four different hatches so far that eggs from one particular hen (a buff orpington) have consistently hatched 12-24 hours earlier than all the rest of them. So there must be some individual variation, as well!

WE HAVE PIPPING!!! In all 3 eggs in the incubator! The one furthest along (a silkie) chirped at me when I talked to him/her.

This is my first time hatching eggs and I'm ridiculously excited.

my broody has 2or 3 more days til hatchday . other hens have been laying in her nest daily booting her out daily. well this morning i checked underneath her and grabbed the 2 eggs the other hens layed today and noticed one of the marked eggs for hatching was part crushed in on one end so i figured it was no good so i opened to see if it was fertile and there was a chick devolping inside it was all wrapped up and it was alive for a few minutes i guess i killed it thinking it wouldnt hatch being crushed. so i guess i should have let it be .

I'm so happy for you.every time I see one of you talking about your eggs I have to run and look at mine. Mine should hatch Monday if all goes well.

The one thing that gets me is that the eggs look the same today as the day I put them in. Aren't I crazy.

I hope everyone posts on their eggs so I know what might happen.

I have to know, after these eggs hatch how soon will you set eggs again?

They look the same on the outside, but the changes on the inside are nothing short of astounding! :)

I tended to Sophie in her little mini-coop this morning, and while I was changing her water she got up to stretch her legs, so I ran inside to get my flashlight to candle her eggs quickly. Today is day 20 for her, so tomorrow could be the big day. I say 'could' because this is her first time as a broody momma, so we'll find out soon if she did it correctly. When I candled, the air cells in all 7 of her eggs seemed quite large. I know it has been extremely dry here these last few weeks, so I don't know if the air cells are TOO large and how this will affect the hatch. But I wish her all the best luck! She sure seems to want to be a momma. We'll find out tomorrow!

As for how soon I will set eggs again, I have told myself I have to be done for the season. I even cleaned both incubators and put them away in the attic. I do have to be done for the spring, at the very least, because I have too many family visits planed for May and June that I know I won't be able to properly care for new chicks. I timed it so most of these hatches will be well into maturing by summer. Ask me again in late summer if I've been able to leave the incubators in the attic, haha. I may find it unbearable and dig them out again before next spring ...

Hello! I just saw this thread today. One of my hens went broody, and we got "foster eggs" for her to hatch - setting them on March 26. Today - we have pipping from the first egg! So exciting - and this is our first experience with hatching. No sign of activity from the other 4 yet.

Ya! I know! I have been out to check on that broody about 50 times!

I wanted to make sure that she was still on her nest! LOL

And a question for you guys: The broody that I found under the shed (NOT the one in the coop, but the one that I posted pics of) hatched a chick on Wednesday, and I found it dead this morning. No signs of life in the other eggs (I haven't candled, but no cheeping or pipping, rocking, etc)... How long should I leave them there before moving her to the coop and giving her more eggs? I am hoping that if she doesn't hatch anything this round, she will sit for another batch... Thanks guys! You're the best!

Never again with an incubator!!! (though I realize once the trauma has worn off I may change my mind)

Two of my three were shrink-wrapped. One was slightly bloody at the pip, which really concerned me. After boosting humidity, watching all day long, and having the third egg and pip, zip, and emerge, I knew my suspicions were correct that the two others were stuck. They had their beaks out, but couldn't make progress.

Using this thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/9316/intervention-helping-your-chicks-hatch (THANK YOU!!!!!) I got the two stuck ones out. The one that had the blood sort of looks like it may have something wrong with its vent. I'm not messing with them at this point, so time will tell, but I don't have my hopes up. The other two (fingers crossed) seem fine.

Anyway my nerves are SHOT.
