Most people are referred to the ameraucana website because there is so much information pertaining to the breed located there. That is, if one is interested in doing a little reading about the breed.
I wish it were very simple to explain "what an Ameraucana is" or "what an Araucana is" or "what an Easter Egger is" when newcomers ask questions about the blue/green egg layers.
It is far more complicated to explain the differences between these birds than to explain about wyondottes, leghorns, or old english.
Perhaps the biggest thing that gets folks confused with these birds is the fact that they all carry the blue egg gene for laying blue/green eggs! But the blue egg gene is not the "only" determining characteristic.
The second reason, is because of the false advertisment done by hatcheries of their birds as Araucana, Ameruacana.
It is always overwhelming and tiring to try to explain all of the different characteristics that determines "why one bird is this, that, or the other."
To be referred to the Ameraucana website is not a cop-out answer either!!! It is to offer a person a great opportunity to obtain good information.
Yes, the hatcheries know very well what they are doing with their false advertisments of Easter Eggers as Aruacana, Ameruacana, or ("Americana"......not a breed)! It's called $$$$. Hatcheries sell Easter Eggers!!!! And they also know that their behinds are covered legally when they so advertise by using the "A" name with an "i" in it!!!
To get back on target, the OP, was implying that if a hatchery add or any other add for that matter has spelled the "A" name with an 'i' in the name most likely "they" have EASTER EGGERS! I agree! That little itty bitty tiny 'i' in the "A" name is a BIG clue.
