Anyone’s Fall chicks this year start laying yet - Updated

Nice big starter egg too.
In the past when I didn't have a fake egg or two to keep in nest boxes I used white golf balls. It works.
Within a month my girls figured it out and quit laying on the ground, though I still find an occasional egg on the ground near the nest boxes, so I give credit for trying.

It Happened!!!22 1/2 weeks! I think it was our silver laced Wyandotte, Who I said weeks ago was going to be the last to lay an egg. She proved me wrong. So incredibly excited!!!!
Now, how do I get her to lay in nest box???? I just changed one of the straw mats to shavings. Maybe that will work.

Of course, I had to crawl to that back corner to retrieve it!!! We have an elevated coop. Then, while I was at the house getting the ladder to climb in coop l, all the ladies were gathered around the egg pecking it.

Nice.that's a big egg. Yeah get a fake egg or a golf ball. Put it in the nest box and put the nest box in the same area she laid the egg. Kind not being to visual from you that you can see it. Half hidden.

I also just left an egg in the nest as well. Yeah its a nice big egg. I got a couple of them when my pullets started laying. You will get different sizes.

I had Golf balls Since 18 weeks. They have seemed to pay them no attention. I went and got the ceramic eggs today. Hopefully they figure it out or at least lay a little closer to the door for me!
