Hi guys... Sorry for the delay in updates... Been a rough couple days here.. The vet made it out and barely got a blood sample before the gelding passed. I sent both horses to the state vet for autopsies.. Absolutely nothing is showing in the blood work from my vet.. We both agreed that the symptoms were very similar to West Nile but both of these horses had been vaccinated and it's been too cold for Mosquitos for over a month... Our other 5 horses are still all in perfect health, I've been checking temps n vitals 3x a day just to be sure and my vet took blood samples from all of them as a precaution but they all came back clear..so still no concrete answers as of yet, state vet said it could be a while before I hear back from them, so playing the waiting game.. We've put the barn on lock down.. No one going in for at least 30 days and it will be sterilized from top to bottom several times between now and then.. I want to thank you guys again for the help and support.. You guys really helped me keep my sanity <3 I'm forever grateful

I know I am extremely late finding this thread and I am sorry for your loss. The waiting and not knowing must be so hard.

I had to share what I have experienced in hopes that others may benefit. My QH gelding was about 3 and that was 10 years ago when all of the sudden he couldn't get up. It appeared his front end was paralyzed, after some research and calls to the vet we decided it was West Nile virus and treated him with this product: http://franklampley.com/horse-products/white-lightning.html
(We believe in all natural holistic treatment and do not vaccinate.)
It has been so many years I am getting a little fuzzy on details but after several days of intensive treatment and prayer he was able to stand however then his hind quarters seemed to become paralyzed for another few days. The second half wasn't so bad since horses balance with their front end. He then regained complete control and has been a great (albeit clumsy) trail horse for the 10 years since.

I did read that your horse was vaccinated however if you will do some research and maybe even ask an honest vet, you will find that vaccinations are NOT 100% effective. Also as to the cold weather, it could have been a delayed reaction or perhaps a mosquito was hiding in the barn. Whatever the explanation, your description sure sounded exactly like the symptoms that my guy went through.

I would also like to add that we had 10-15 horses at the time my gelding got sick and had a fluctuating number of horses for the 10 years prior and since and he was the ONLY one to ever get seriously sick.
