oh jeez, what a horrible, sickening thought. yes, it was pour-on (the damerow book didn't specify or note the difference) but i stopped because i felt that it was irritating more than helping and i couldn't stand the idea of causing her greater discomfort. her eyes looked red and fairly bad, but they were mostly open and she continued to eat and dust bathe and do her usual chickeny things. i used the homeopathic pink eye medicine in her eyes today to help soothe the irritation, and believe it or not the one really bad eye, the one that did have something tiny and wormy emerge, does look better. i am so grateful that you all responded with warnings and advice. there really is very little information about this on the web that doesn't involve a vet visit or something as frighteningly caustic as lysol. and i found nothing that distinguished between the available ivermectin meds nor noted that ivermectin pour-on was inappropriate. (the bottle warns about getting it in the eyes, but i had no idea that this wasn't the medicine damerow refers to in her book on chicken health. i'm an urban person; not someone with livestock experience...) i can't thank you all enough. i will give her poor eyes a few days to recover and then assess and will let you all know if we re-attempt treatment with the correct ivermectin.
thank you, again, with all my heart.
