Anyone buy from nature's hatchery?

just spoke with reed from natures hatchery, verified the babies went out yesterday but did not have an express shipping number, now i sit and wait. i think i'll go to bed at about 7pm, that way the night will go faster, plus i am hoping i will have to get up really early, so i better get ahead on my sleep, right?

Yeah, I was pretty put off by that too; I had called them initially when I wanted to start thinking about getting Call ducks because they are local to me. I was ultimately glad I didn't like their service because I did more research and went in an entirely different direction from the hatchery-bird thing.

My class is ordering from them, i too had a little trouble contacting Reed, but he always left me a message when he tried to call and was very nice. We have set the shipping date for April 13-hopefully it will go well!!

We ordered silkies from them and they arrived in good health. 1 was dead in the box. Half the silkies were 4 toed. They didnt ship the full order so they will be shipping the missing chicks as soon as they are avail. Like 3-4 weeks he said. I also ordered eggs but they had to cancel them due to the birds not laying well. They were kind of hard to get a hold of but were very nice.

omg, omg, omg!!!!! they're finally here!!!! finally got my phone call from the post office at 1 pm, they had come in on the afternoon truck. i left my car running with the heat on full blast while i went in to get them so the car was nice and warm when i came back. there was one dead banty. i put a small dish with marbles in it, with some lightly sugared pedialyte in the box, there was chick chaos!! i used an eye dropper and kept offering it to the chicks not getting a drink, some of them actually tried to swallow the dropper. i took out about 5 of the tiniest banties for individual drinks and made them a nest on the floor in my fleece jacket. when i got home i put them into the brooder pen 1 by 1 as i saw they were pecking and moving well. in the end there was one tiny little banty i carried around in my bra for about an hour before i put him in with the others. 1 hour later i could not tell which one had been iffy. i had called reed almost as soon as i got them home and told him about the doa one, and the iffy one. he credited my account for both of them. i have had them home for 3 hours now. i an absolutely thrilled with how vigorous they are. eating, drinking, running and jumping. they found a dead fly and had a game of tag. i cannot say enough about how alert and busy they are. i'll be interesting to see how the next couple of days turn out. one of the buff orpington chicks is olympic long jump material, she can clear a huddle of 7 sleeping babies without even touching one! so funny!

I have a question for anyone who has received chicks from them before...what's the return address on the package they send the chicks in?

If it's true that they drop ship (Order through them but ship from another hatchery) I'd like to know where the actual location is of the place they're shipping from. I'm thinking about ordering some game birds from them and I'd be more comfortable knowing they'd be shipping from some place relatively close instead of some place 3,000 miles away.

I'm also interested in seeing what they've got. If you got pics, that would be great!

What is their shipping rates?? I read what they have but it didn't make any sense at all.

"If you wish to place an order of less than 15 birds, you will need to call us, as we have special pricing and services for the small orders. For orders of about 5 birds or less, the pricing starts at $10.00 per bird plus shipping."

So that would be $50 plus shipping for only 5 birds?? (just an example). I tried calling them to verify but they were closed for the day. I'll be calling them tomorrow.

We ended up going with Welp (Privett) because I never heard back from Natures Hatchery despite leaving my number twice. I think they need to hire a seasonal phone person to take orders. I know what it's like to have too much to do at work, but this must real;ly cut into their business.

They had such a nice selection, I thought they may be a drop shipper too.
