Anyone catch their own fish to eat?

Caught & ate all sorts of fish since I was a kid. I fish saltwater these days. It's become frustrating though. The regulations, size limits and open/closed seasons have made it much more difficult to bring something home for the table.

no fishing for me right now, ice is too thin to use safely, maybe 2-3 inches of ice at moment. (anyone who says its safe is risking there life)

but that means i will start to target burbot, perch and pike. three of the best tasting fish around if you ask me.

yes am that guy who thinks pike is better then walleye.

Unfortunately many freshwater lakes have very significant pollution. Most states have sites letting you know how much fish you can safely consume. Larger apex fish like pike, salmon, steelhead etc. are the most likely to have high levels of PCBs, heavy metals etc.. Panfish such as crappies are generally the safest.

We fish in the summer, drive 8 hours out to the coast. All the girls stay on ht beach and surf, and the boys take the boat out, and catch her limit in halibut, salmon, Lingcod, Cabizon, and a bunch of other rock fish I don't know the names of. They head out at 4am, and come back at 2-3. We have 2 freezers dedicated to frozen fish, which we eat all year after the season is over. It's awesome!

Oh yes, growing up as a country yokel in small rural PNW town my stepdad was steelhead/fishing in general aficionado. We would also head out to the San Juans to clam.

Cartons and cartons of roe in our fridge :sick

Does anyone catch their own fish to eat? I was fishing yesterday and brought home 3 white perch to eat! I just finished filleting(?) them and now I am cooking!
:drool I'm hoping to start hunting/catching my own meat.
I've been fishing most of my life in Missouri some in Minn and some saltwater. Here's a tip if you like catfish and have a nearby river. Use goldfish for bait. Put the heavy curved large very large I say hook on a few inches lower than a pretty heavy weight if you have a current. Use extra heavy line almost like for the ocean and heavy reel. The hook goes under the backbone of the goldfish across. Give it a toss and be ready for a huge catfish. Good luck! Let me know how you do if you try it. Also chicken liver is good and worms but with them you may get turtles and other fish you don't really want for food. Wish I was fishing with you! I haven't been able to go this year. I have the boat after my divorce and just don't want to take it out by myself. You'll do great off the bank with that but the weight will tend to get stuck in the brush if you don't reel it in as fast as you can so take extra weights and hooks and bait.
