Anyone cook for their dog?

Hi! Go to leerberg.com, this is long time german shepard people who have a business and forum on training and feeding all breeds. The way to feed is raw. Its something you really need to learn about. Sounds gross:lol: also google B.A.R.F. diets.

Natural health care and food. I am a long time kibble user. Got a new puppy (Ger.GSD) 3/08. Lost all my dogs in the past mainly to all different kinds of cancer. Also over imunizing is a large problem. We wanted to do right by this puppy. Put the best in him... Hes purebred East German, German Sheperd. bred to a working dog standard Not show ring beauty. Hes not in-bred or even line bred. He was bred to be a healthy family companion with all the desirable GSD traits. The old style, large, block head boy, red sable. I just got a camera and when I figure it out I will do pictures.

When it was time to think about feeding him I did hours and hours of research, I went raw...You need to think about wolves whenever you want to understand your dogs. I know there are all types of wives tales about dogs and blood and so on...Except it- chickens are prey and dogs are predators. But, If your dog is trained and under control no problem. My dogs love eggs whole raw eggs. I know more wives tales-again if your dog is trained and under control no problem. Research Raw....

Thank you everyone for all of the great ideas! I am a little afraid of the raw thing...i switched to cooking for him (and giving him a daily vitamin) because the food he was on actually made him sick and hes been SOO much better, and healthier since i cook for him. I have plenty of raw eggs to try with him

I give him a mixture of cooked diced chicken and grains (brown rice, white rice, oatmeal, etc), with some vegetables added in. I always measure to make sure the grain is less than 50%, protien about 50% and then the veggies tossed in.

We feed Diamond Natural dry with cooked. We buy either chicken whole and cook it down then use water too cook the rice or we buy beef or pork necks and do it. We will buy all sorts of meat extras like necks and put in livers, hearts and such. Each one of the meats is done seprate and made up that way we do not give her mixed meats in same meal. That way she gets variaty from week to week.
