They are all like that LOL

And the stories you learn sooo much fun!

Interesting. I did check out the library's old newspapers more than 10 years ago. Right now it's just not convenient for me to do a lot of research away from home so I have to stick to what i can do here mainly.

I looked into the county lines changing--actually the townships and wow!! They changed and split only about a million times!!

makes it harder on us looking when they do that.

I got so lucky!! My grandparents saved all the letters my mom wrote home from Japan when she was in the Army - plus some newspapers from there and small stuff, too. I have an entire box of the letters alone.

I did most my work on the computer and phone also mail. Then I took a trip to southern Indiana to visit the family home town
I have to say that was the best part
Use the message boards that helps and if there are people in the towns where you need information they tend to help great people out there

Do you have any relatives (older ones) you can talk to and ask questions? Sometimes they remember a little wrong, but it helps you look in new directions.

I also have tons of photos - I even have a copy of a pic of my GGG Grandfather Daniels in his Civil War uniform the day he signed up - he was 24 years old. I got lucky with him, because he was in the 1st Michigan Cavalry - and I have his entire troop movements throught he war because of what unit he was in.

If your relatives served in military there is a good site (lost the link years ago, but a search may find it) on various wars with unit names and enrollemnt lists, it is extensive - not searchable by name (or it wasn't at the time) but if you know where he signed up you can look through the lists and find the relative.

That is awesome! I have some relatives' diaries (or copies actually) which is really interesting--one from the Civil War. I used to be really into that. Right now I'm really interested in the Depression era though and how it affected people's everyday lives because my grandparents lived through that but they were all farmers and it doesn't seem like it affected them like some others other than some stories like chicken thieves sneaking around at night and one guy who drove off with a truckload of potatoes and not paying for them.

I have about 30,000 names in my database at present. I worked on it more before I got chickens. I need to get back at it again.

"Behold, the time has fully come, which was spoken of by the mouth of Malachi--testifying that Elijah should be sent, before the great and dreadful day of the Lord come--
To turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the children to the fathers, lest the whole earth be smitten with a curse--
Therefore, the keys of the dispensation of the fullness of time are committed into your hands; and by this ye may know that the great and dreadful day of the Lord is near, even at the doors."

every inch of paper was covered (she lived through the depression, too) The woman lived to be 103 years old, was married three times - never had any kids of her own - owned her own businesses - first a resturaunt then a hat shop.

She also wrote down any tales she could recall of her grandfather and great grandfather (which helped me find the family line).

I have a lot history I put together on my dads family 6 five inch binders

I need to work more on my moms family they are harder not in the states as long and her dad had a common name Tucker. My dads family has a common name as well it is cunningham
Common names stink
My dads mom was an angleton I learned that every angleton in the united states is related to each other they where much easier thou they like to use the same names over and over again
