:celebrate:celebrate:celebrateJust home with my 12 eggs (but he gave me another 12 free :lau) so have 17 Cream legbar, 4 marans and 3 vorwerks :lau:lau:lau oh oh oh dear! I'm pretty sure I can only fit 9 under each silkie so need to work out which 6 I'll just eat :lau:lau

Can someone tell me if I should be resting my eggs on the side or pointy end down????? I thought it was side and that is what I did with the last few hatches but then read that it should be pointy down :thconfusion abounds!

Oh man, so nice but such a tough decision!!! There is a lot of information about how to store eggs, but the most consistent is pointy end down.

I ordered 13 Polish eggs and she sent me 22! I already had 6 just hatched cuckoo marans so I was a bit overwhelmed with her generosity.
Eeek - very generous of her!

I really don't know what I'll do if they all hatch - I'll have to sell some of the others  to be fair he gave me some of them because he lost one of his roos so wasn't sure if they would all be fertile!

Thanks both - they are all now pointy end down (I think - some of the CL eggs are like little topedos so a bit hard to tell which end is which :lau). I'm guessing 45 minutes in the car isnt' the same as 3 days in the post though so not going to stress too much!
There is research out there that says that storing them pointy end UP results in better hatch. This however I believe, does not apply to shipped eggs but you dont have to worry about that in your circumstance. They will be just fine stored fat end up, down or on their sides. You're going to be incubating them within a day or so anyway, right?

I have 3 Barnevelder chicks that hatched this morning. 3 more on the way and I have to say that they are some of the most gorgeous chicks even straight out of the shell. The darker chicks are a charcoal with gold flecks on the wing tips and nape of the neck and the lighter one is mid grey with gold wings and chest. Just beautiful! I'll take pics when they are fluffed up and out of the bator. :love:love:love:love:love:love:jumpy

That is interesting!

Yep, I've just spent the last hour or so cleaning my 2 small coops that I use as the nurseries (they have a fence around them too so the broodies can be safe from the others being mean to them or laying on them and they can go out to poo!), moving Hermione from the big coop into hers and then forcibly removing Doris from under one of the coops, I'm hoping she settles as she was a bit bothered about being moved. Hermione the Warrior silkie was ace and didn't say a word or peck me even (which is pretty unusual for her!) and just sat on the nest where I put her with the egg she was on. I'll put the 'real' eggs under them tomorrow. I think I'll keep Doris locked up to make sure she is OK as she seems so bothered about the moved
