Eeek - very generous of her!I ordered 13 Polish eggs and she sent me 22! I already had 6 just hatched cuckoo marans so I was a bit overwhelmed with her generosity.
There is research out there that says that storing them pointy end UP results in better hatch. This however I believe, does not apply to shipped eggs but you dont have to worry about that in your circumstance. They will be just fine stored fat end up, down or on their sides. You're going to be incubating them within a day or so anyway, right? Thanks both - they are all now pointy end down (I think - some of the CL eggs are like little topedos so a bit hard to tell which end is which). I'm guessing 45 minutes in the car isnt' the same as 3 days in the post though so not going to stress too much!
That is interesting! There is research out there that says that storing them pointy end UP results in better hatch
Yep, I've just spent the last hour or so cleaning my 2 small coops that I use as the nurseries (they have a fence around them too so the broodies can be safe from the others being mean to them or laying on them and they can go out to poo!), moving Hermione from the big coop into hers and then forcibly removing Doris from under one of the coops, I'm hoping she settles as she was a bit bothered about being moved. Hermione the Warrior silkie was ace and didn't say a word or peck me even (which is pretty unusual for her!) and just sat on the nest where I put her with the egg she was on. I'll put the 'real' eggs under them tomorrow. I think I'll keep Doris locked up to make sure she is OK as she seems so bothered about the movedYou're going to be incubating them within a day or so anyway, right?
I have 3 Barnevelder chicks that hatched this morning
Sounds like they are great winter layers @oregonkatI have to go and look at them now (enabler!)
