NO, I wet the sock and roll it up and get it wet one more time then just set it in there like you do the sponges...Honestly the goslings huddled around it because it was warm... kind of like momma!

the one duckling that was not doing good I laid the duckling on the paper towel and just laid it over her like a blanket, I did not want the healthier ones pecking her till she absorbed the yolk. Had one die that way once. they KNOW who to pick on.

the papertowels really spiked up the humidity like an hour or so after I put it in there. had I known I would have done that instead of a sock.

I agree with that! The only problem with the paper towels is they dry out so fast. If you can set them where you can wet them without opening the bator, they work really well.

Mine seem to stay wet shelly because I use the shelf paper on the bottom of the bator so the shelf paper does not let the water drip out as easily!

Baby pics of the ones hatched by my broody!!
There are 2 pure BR, 3 pure mille fluer d'uccles, and 3 BR and white standard cochin mixes. These are from 8 eggs brought to me by cthrash1...Thanks Cindy!!

This one has all 8 babies in it. There is one millie behind the cage.

Ahhh they are so cute! They just grow up too fast! I have some millies and silkies that are a month old and they are not that cute fuzziness anymore. Just cute in a different way.


I have one BCM that is working on getting out so far. Nothing from the other eggs in there - but it is my understanding they can be late.

By the way update, my one little pekin did not make it but I have 3 more geese and one more pekin hatched last night and 1 pekin pipped and one cheeping to get out. WOO HOO

Day 22 here - the one BCM is out and in with my 1 week old serama. He can't walk well yet but still felt the need to peck my lil' Pipsqueak! He is twice as big as the serama and FAT. I heard scratching in a couple of the other eggs so I am hoping that they are just running late.

Out of 14 so far I have 6 that have hatched...3 RIR, 2 Black Orps and 1 Dom x BR. I have 8 eggs to go. 1st one hatched before I got home from work yesterday evening and the others hatched throughout the night and this morning. I must say the waiting is agonizing...hehehe
