Anyone else disappointed by their christmas??

Quote:
I agree, and I would stongly emphasize #8. I'm sorry if anybody had a "bad" Christmas, but unless you are suffering a tragic loss or extreme hardship, it isn't really that bad. When things seem bad, count your blessings. There are usually people worse off. Christmas presents are trinkets. One day is just a fleeting and miniscule moment in our lives.

Edited because I didn't proof read.

one of my friends was widowed just before christmas. She has two children (eldest is 12) who were also miserable because they also miss their dad. Someone very close to me had a miscarriage on solstice. So I think it's all a matter of perspective, as they'd love to be in a situation where all that was wrong was having not-so-great gifts for their respective midwinter festivals.

my DH's grandmas sis in law(or his great aunt i believe) passed away christmas day. and then later that day his great aunts granddaughter(i think that's who she is) had a baby. so.. it was sad. but a happy ending i guess. the lady was old. and it was expected. so.. it almost was a relief for her family. but too bad it happened on that day.

I try to look at the good. i remember when a few years ago i was in the same boat.. "poor me" i got this or that.. not what i expected and i still look back and wonder what i did to get a rock from my sis in law(yea a rock) lol. but i am not angry anymore about it. just wondering haha.

This says it all:

He puzzled and puzzled till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before! Maybe Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. Maybe Christmas... perhaps... means a little bit more!

I was blessed that 2 very dear friends took care of the horses and we were able to go home for Christmas for the first time in Many Many years. Yes there were presents, but honestly, I had the Best Christmas just being able to be with my Parents, Sister, BIL, Nephew, Niece and my last remaining Grandmother. I also was able to see a few High School friends. No, Christmas does not come from a store. Christmas does mean a little bit more!

All Xmas's are good to me. I love the spirit and the reason for the season. Gifts don't mean alot to me, but I love cards from my DH that he picked out himself, and hasn't done for a long time. . . .but then I think about people who lost a loved one unexpectably, or has someone who is ill and not to be on earth for much longer, and I have nothing to complain about. I have a roof over my head, food in my belly and a family that loves me (mostly). My favorite nephew whom I have not seen in 14 years came by to see me today and that was the best gift of all!!! Happy New Year everyone. God Bless our boys and girls overseas, I hope they come home sooner than expected, and are whole in mind and spirit and body. We truly are a blessed nation!

My MIL was super sweet to give me and DD gift certs to Creative Hands (paint/glaze your own ceramics/pottery) but then she kinda blew it with the dish drainer and drying pad.

Just a tiny subtle little jibe at my homemaking skills... not that I don't already own TWO dishdrainers, they're just too big to fit next to the sink with my toaster oven in place... since my wall oven doesn't work at all that's the only oven I've got... ANYWHO... And I was a bit disappointed that my hand painted then glazed ornament with grandbabies names (just got a new one on the 15th remember) and the cardinal and blue jay* in the winterscaped trees didn't merit so much as a call, email, or other thank you from my mom. Oh well.

Other than that I'm good. Son was thrilled with his sword and other smaller gifts. Both kids are loving the keyboard that dotter got. B giggled over his books, including Plato and the Platypus (philosophy major) so that just make me smile.

*Papabear always said if he came back it'd be as a cardinal and mom figures Gran would come back as an evil blue jay (she figures they are mean, selfish, hateful birds -she equates these traits to her mom, Gran- when really they're just VERY protective of their young which I figure is a compliment but she doesn't) so that's where the bird thing comes from... they're both gone now, so the reference to them still being here... anywho...
