Sorry I didn't read this whole thread. But I will say that I have enjoyed my Christmases much more since I quit trying to please everyone else, expect nothing (in return or just nothing *period*), and just hope make my DD happy. As long as DD has a good Christmas and my family is happy and healthy I'm golden. But I will say it has taken me many years to get here, my most bitter disappointements were due to spending hours, days, or even months making homemade gifts only to have people say "oh".
Quit trying to get the "perfect" gift for those who don't notice it, get them the " good enough" gift. Tell the people closest to you what you really want. Even if it isn't a suprise. Expect nothing. Enjoy visiting.
