Anyone else doing a MAJOR cleaning of their coop?

I use deep litter and have no smell, so comes april
I take one coop a day.have 5 to do .Ialso use stall dry,
Ionly do the total cleaning Sept. and april; but in between
I add wood shavings if needed and they stir it up
and have a good time in doing it. I also sprinkle garden dust
on my feathered friends, have seen no bugs and
Ialways am checking,

I SO need to clean mine out! It is an old double shed where I have the chickens and I am seriously thinking of just building a new coop (so many great ideas on here) and burning the old one down! I really dont want to even try to get a wheelbarrow in there through two doors and up and over the thresh holds. As a matter of fact...I dont think my new barrow would even FIT! Yup, burning it down sounds good....Terri O in WI

my coop gets cleaned every other day full cleaning......i cant stand to walk into a smelly coop.....my wife would freak out...

I'm doing a major cleaning of my duck pens tomorrow - after weeks of high temperatures only reaching the teens, it's been in the mid-to-upper 30's most of this week. Everything that was frozen onto the floors, sides, and ceilings (yes - ceilings; ducks have to be some of the untidiest creatures inhabiting planet Earth) is now melting into a nasty, gooey mess.

The snow's still too deep to get a wheelbarrow through, so I'm piling everything behind the pens, and it should be just composted enough to haul into the gardens once the snow is gone.

Once everything is clean - it's already getting to be time to separate everyone into their breeding pens! Just over two months remaining until my girls should start laying again!

Orange Guard? I haven't heard of it, but it sounds safe around the birds. Where can you find it?

What a great idea in regards to the air compressor! I never thought about that...

That is a great idea! I like to use my hand held leaf blower after removing shavings and sweeping down the whole coop to remove dust when I do the big total cleaning. I'm in desperate need to do a total cleaning. They've been hanging out having a poopy party for two weeks. Warmed up this week to melt the snow to a muddy mess, so not sure when I'll do it.

I am going to start tomorrow. All of the litter/dirt in the house and run are being removed and replaced with new/ fresh. The nesting boxes are getting a deep clean with a light bleach solution as well as the roosts and walls. After a sprinkle of DE over everything we should be good to go for a year. Doing this deep clean makes regular cleaning so much easier. It is going to take a few days be it needs to be done and I would rather do it now than in the spring so I can focus on my flower gardens.
