Anyone else freaked out your chicken will peck your face?

Mine are either going after the freckles on my arms, the folds of skin on my palms (and that's no peck, that's a bite!), or they're trying to pull out dh's arm hair. Little devils.

Great! I'm new at chickening

but I'm sorta addicted and the embarrassing thing is that I'm afraid of my chickens! I thought I was being irrational and too Hitchcock about it but now I know I'm not the only "chicken" .

I'm frightened of the chickens when they are up higher than my head, I freak out and think that they might fly at my head or something. Do chickens attack?

BTW, I just bought 3 baby Wellsummers today....haven't even touched them yet. I started to and they freaked out and freaked me out. Guess I don't have to worry about my eyes because I will probably never have them that close. My boys however, love to handle the chickens. I will warn them to run, duck and cover when they get too close. JK....I will Gently tell them to be careful!!!

Rarely will a bird attack you, thou like any animal it can happen.

I wear wrap around safety glasses for alot of things. (My sunglasses don't cover the sides enough, as it applies to birds, dust or flying objects.)

You can walk with a wooden leg.
You can pick stuff up with an artifical hand.
But you cannot see with a glass eye.

Honest, I was afraid of holding my chickens too. I got them home and in the brooder from the hatchery and feed mill without touching them. They were two weeks old at that point-kind of weird looking feather and balding stage. Now I run around the yard with a chicken on my hip (8 weeks later). I had never held a bird until theses chickens. Their feet are still a little weird, but I'm working on it. Just spend some time watching the chickens and you'll get used to them.

My favoritest, sweetest chick was sitting on my shoulder yesterday and somehow managed to reach around and peck me right in the eye! Since it was from the side I didn't see her coming and didn't blink in time. OUCH OUCH OUCH!!!

No blood, thank goodness, but the eye still stings and is watery today.

Sun glasses, preferably with side guards, are the way to go.

Either that or no more chicks on the shoulder.

I also wear sunglasses. Emma likes to jump on my shoulder while I am busy feeding everyone else watermelon and I just don't have time to make sure she behaves. I had a toddler visit yesterday, most kids around here have never seen a chicken. I watched very carefully because my chickens are so friendly they wanted to come right up and peck his pretty clothing. The dog also walks away and around them a bit now because he has a mole on his leg that is just too tempting a target.

Zenbirder, our neighbor gave us pictures of her daughters coop and a picture of two of her chickens with her dog. She said her daughter was out west. Anyway, the chickens and dog matched what was on your list of pets... Just thought I'd ask.

my girls have never gone for my eyes, but they do try to rip out my piercings.

hahah
my RIR was cuddling up against my chest, saw my nose ring, and decided it looked like good food. so she grabbed it, but then she let it go. guess it didnt taste too well.
