I have not tried the liner... yet.
I thought about it, but lately, I've been leaving the eggs in the carton for the hatch. Clean up is pretty easy with carton hatching.
My biggest concern was the chicks laying on the wire, but they usually find their way back onto the cartons and lay on top of the warm eggs that haven't hatched yet.
Sounds like a great idea if you don't use cartons in your hatcher.

I was debating the cartons this time as well. My concern was that the chicks would get stuck in the shell. Do the cartons really work well?

Where do you get this mesh shelf liner? I have been thinking along the same lines about wanting to keep a cleaner hatching environment, not to mention a more comfortable place for the chicks to hatch onto.

After they all hatch, I do put them all on a small towel in the incubator; it seems to help with the drying process as well as being oh so much more comfortable than that wire!

Egg Update: I just put my nose to the vent, and smelled something a little odd. I sniffed each one, then, bingo. Rotten egg. I had never noticed the smell before, and it wasn't all that strong, so it must have been a late death. Only 9 eggs left out of 11 fertile eggs. *sigh* I'll candle the remaining tonight, and prepare for lock down. I hope that it's rotteness or bacteria did not spread....

I actually found some at the dollar store. But you can get it at Wal-mart in the section where they sell regular shelf paper. It is like a spongy material that has tiny holes in it to let the moisture through, but not too big of holes that the chicks will get their feet stuck.

Don't be too envious... I paid enough for the peafowl eggs and lost 5 due to shipping - only 1 was any good. Then you have to incubate for 28 days. I've had power outtages and temp/humidity issues and candling issues.
If this egg hatches (and I'm not getting my hopes up) it'll be a $60.00 chick and I'll still have to get it through the first month!!!
Peafowl are hard to hatch and hard to start I've heard.

On the positive side, though, I did see movement on June 9th and if this pea chick hatches it's gonna be adorable. Opals are my favorite! I hoping for a peacock, but I'll take a hen - either way, I just hope it hatches.

I just took off the rest of the week from work - I don't go back until Friday. They must think I'm crazy... not that I told them I was hatching, but a lot of them could figure it out if they thought about it.

Good luck to you too!! That is too funny. I scheduled myself off for my first hatch in February. I took 3 days off!! This time, I didn't. But I know that some will hatch in the middle of the night. Reminds me of the days when my daughter was a newborn!
