Everyone is SO right! It IS addictive!!
I havent bought them yet but already have a line up I want to set in July if the weather doesnt get terribly hot.
Paganbird, pea egg??? Ack! Envious and happy for you at the same time,lol.

Sounds like a great idea if you don't use cartons in your hatcher.

I was debating the cartons this time as well. My concern was that the chicks would get stuck in the shell. Do the cartons really work well?

Egg Update: I just put my nose to the vent, and smelled something a little odd. I sniffed each one, then, bingo. Rotten egg. I had never noticed the smell before, and it wasn't all that strong, so it must have been a late death. Only 9 eggs left out of 11 fertile eggs. *sigh* I'll candle the remaining tonight, and prepare for lock down. I hope that it's rotteness or bacteria did not spread....

I actually found some at the dollar store. But you can get it at Wal-mart in the section where they sell regular shelf paper. It is like a spongy material that has tiny holes in it to let the moisture through, but not too big of holes that the chicks will get their feet stuck.

Just put mine in lockdown mode. Temps and humidity seem to be stabilized. Here's hoping for a good hatch!

Peafowl are hard to hatch and hard to start I've heard.

On the positive side, though, I did see movement on June 9th and if this pea chick hatches it's gonna be adorable. Opals are my favorite! I hoping for a peacock, but I'll take a hen - either way, I just hope it hatches.

Good luck to you too!! That is too funny. I scheduled myself off for my first hatch in February. I took 3 days off!! This time, I didn't. But I know that some will hatch in the middle of the night. Reminds me of the days when my daughter was a newborn!
