We collected the eggs then let her have them to set on. So I have a good idea of the hatch date. Only it's been so cold and I may have given her too many eggs to cover as we included 4 large eggs from a neighbor as well as her 4 small, Silkie eggs. I ended up tossing one large out midway that was not fertile, but I think it may still have been a bit much for her to cover well. This could be why the hatch is slower. Just a guess. This is my first time hatching under a hen and only my second time hatching ever! The first I did it with a desk lamp and hatched 4 out of 5 fertile eggs.
I have two roos... a white that has a silver to him. I think it's a blue gene if his Mom was the Partridge hen. His Dad was a pure white, so I'm guessing he's from the Partridge hen to have that color coming through.
Above: You can see some of that silver color in this picture from when he was a little younger
Above: From the front he looks pretty much just white
Anyway, I have him and a Partridge Roo.
Both the hens are white. I did not separate the hens with a particular roo, so I don't know what I will get. One Silkie is pipping so I'm so hopeful it will hatch out ok!! How do you get a Splash? I need to study up on genetics. I would love to have other colors, like black, blue, buff and I think the Splash would terrific as well!
My other hen is setting on 6 Silkie eggs I think. I need to check. My Mom put them under her, so I'll see. I need to candle them, hopefully tonight.
