I put a dozen of my Buff orpington eggs in the incubator tonight. I cant wait till they hatch! They should hatch out on February 1st. Does anyone else have the same hatch date?
I felt the same way with my first hatch. If you have any problems or questions here is the place to find the answers. BYCers have helped me so much and we all will be glad to help you too.
My first ever hatch will hopefully hatch January 29th. I'm anxiously waiting to candle them and see if any of my Marans eggs made the trip from Texas.
The box they were in was pretty banged up.
I have 1 incubator full due to hatch Jan 30 (my own Sebrights,Silkies, and D'Uccles). And another bator full due to hatch Jan 31. This one has Marans(from a BYCer), BBS Orps(from a BYCer), RIRs, Dominiques, & BLRWS(from a breeder I know), and my own Sebrights, Silkies, and D'Uccles. Whew..........Glad to have you guys to hatch along with. Good luck to everyone!
Yup, Feb 1st. Put them in around 2 pm. But ours are my daughter's science project. We ordered chicks from Welp Hatchery for our pullets to keep as layers and pets. These, if any, will just be extra.
Good luck to all of you with your hatches. We are very anxious to see what develops with ours as well. We have never tried this.
I told her if the project was successful with even one chick and she wanted to keep it, any chicks would have to be about the same age as the shipped chicks. I believe we timed it for them to have the same birthday. She built the incubator with some help. We spent almost a week adjusting the vent holes and figuring out how to get the humidity right.
She is trying to see if store bought eggs can be hatched. We bought two separate cartons of fertile eggs. One is Nurti Fresh brown fertile eggs from Chino Valley Ranchers. We got them at a local natural food store called Sprouts in Rossmor. They probably won't make it. We couldn't find any packed more rencently than 12 days ago. I used the code on the end to figure it out, 366. We also bought Trader Joes brand fertile eggs. Unfortunately they are white. They were packed on January 8th, or 008. I am slightly more optimistic about the results of this carton since they weren't on the shelf as long. I'll post again in a week or so if I have a chance. We are now talking about building a homemade candler with a maglite and construction paper.
Stuck my eggs in and waiting for temp to come back up. Humidity is 38-39%, does this sound right?? I'm gonna be a complete basket case in 21 days, I can see it now, lol.
