Anyone else have daydreams about having their own little farm?

HUH, WHAT? Sorry i missed that.

I just came back from my imaginary farm!

I used to daydream about owning a farm...someday. As it turned out, someday came a lot sooner than my then-GF/now-DW and I *ever* anticipated. A 26+/- acre farm with a decent (read that, reasonably liveable) house kinda fell into our laps when I was...27?...so I sold my little house in town and bought it for us. We were able to add another 7ac recently. I'm 32 now, so we've been on the farm about 5 years...I really can't tell yet if farm living is going to kill me or make me stronger.. Either way, living on a farm is a lot like work.

At this point, I find myself daydreaming about living on a rickety houseboat somewhere, doing odd jobs to pay dock fees and occasionally put a bag of groceries in the noisy, beat up ex-dorm fridge beside my lumpy, tattered couchbed thingy...listening to the roof A/C rattle on about how hot it is and how it's far too old to be working so hard...rocking gently to the weakened waves radiating from just beyond the distant no-wake bouys...grinning, each and every time I think about the fact that water never needs to be mowed...peeling myself off the couchbed long enough to go up on the roof and check my container garden, then taking the slide straight back down and overboard to cool off a bit...seeing how far I can float away from my home before I have to worry about losing it...

Aaaaaaaaaaaaand SNAP....I wake up and realize how fortunate I really am to be living out what was once only a dream. Lots of people never get the chance.. Probably shouldn't wish it all away just yet.

Happened to me! grew up and spent my working life in London. As an eight year old I visited a cousin in the country who kept hens. I made up my mind then that one day i would live in the country and keep hens. And guess what! One husband, three children, three grandchildren and a lifetime later I retired and we moved out to farmhouse with 6 acres. Hardly a farm I know but we have 3 horses 11 dogs 2 cats, a rabbit, 9 ducks and of course 4 hens!! Keep the faith!!!

I found out what my Father said was true: "A 5 acres plot will work you harder then a 100 acre Farm"

It is why I quit playing farmville.....

Right now, I refer to our yard as a postage stamp. Too small for anything useful. If I were to plant a garden to feed my family we would not have any grass or anyplace for the kids to play!

I dream a lot....... of winning the Lottery so I can get my farm!!!

In reality I have to find a full time JOB in order to get the heck out of dodge.....

Wanted a farm. Never thought it would happen. It did. It is a hobby farm indeed. No profit here. That's how I want it. Then it wouldn't be fun anymore. My nieces and nephew love the farm. We live in the middle of what was once pristine Gravenstein apple country. Now only a few orchards remain. Vintners came in and ripped out all the orchards and put in grapes. Would rather have that instead of housing tracts and cookie cutter homes. I have named my 3.25 acres Fallen Apple Farm. We have chickens, apples, persimmons the sweet kind, asian pears, chestnuts, pomegranates, a grapefruit tree, Pinot, Tbompson seedless and concord grapes and something else I forget. Love it. We are blessed in Jesus name.
