Anyone else have eggs hatching today?

I went out to the henhouse in the dark with my maglight and candled the remaining eggs. They were all dead a few days ago. I moved mom and her two chicks to a lower nest box near the ladder so the chicks can get out. I'm sure mom will be up and around tomorrow with her chicks and she has no more eggs.

I have a batch that I'm setting in the bator tomorrow to replace these that didn't hatch. One of them is a double yolker and I'm debating whether or not I should set it? We'll see...

I think I read somewhere that double yolkers never hatch but not 100% on that one. I would try to find out befor setting it just so you don't waste the spot or egg.

I just googled hatching double yolk eggs and this is a quote from one of the articles on it: A few years ago one of my hens hatched out twin chicks. We knew this because she had eight eggs and there were eight chicks with one egg left in the nest. When we looked at the chicks we saw two paternal (they looked the same though) chicks that were smaller then all the others. The only difference between them and the other chicks was their size. They were not mutant or anything strange. About three weeks later the smaller of the twins died. The other twin grew into a beautiful hen with the Columbian appearance. When she was three I gave her away to one of my fathers friends.

Most double yoked eggs will not hatch because there will not be enough space in the egg for the chicks to grow. When this does happen the chicks commonly die because they haven’t developed enough to live outside of the egg. Siamese chicks could happen but that would be rarer then regular twin chicks. Plus I highly doubt that siamese chicks would even be able to peck out of their shell and survive for any extended period of time.

Hi, I just caught up, my internet has been down since Sunday. I had a decent hatch, but lost more that usual right at hatch, I think my hatcher humidity may have been too high, I was using a different hatcher because of more eggs, guess I will play with it a little to see how to get a little lower himidity. I also lost 2 after hatching, one had a hernia and I was expecting it, the other one I have no idea.

Out of 42 I got 25 and just sold 20 of them. I have 30 that were set on the 19th and going to set 42 more today.
Has anyone ever had chicks hatch and have problems with their legs? I had 2 that could never get their legs under them. They kind of stuck out to the sides. I didn't want to kill them so the guy that bought 20 from me said he would take them. They were eating and drinking just fine.

From what I've heard so far, that's called 'spraddled legged.' I think it's spraddled anywayIt's apparently easy to fix in the beginning, try searching the forums about it.
