I was just about to condemn my two layers to the soup pot for the crime of pecking and eating their eggs, when I noticed a scrub jay flying out of the coop! I put up a screen in the doorway, and not a single egg has been pecked since! Anyone else have a similar issue?

A couple years ago I had a terrible problem with Jays eating eggs. They were so bold that they would go after eggs in my egg basket if I left it unattended while I finished chores. They even pecked holes in the decorative (painted foam) eggs that were part of a wreath on my front door!! The only way that I could foil them was by closing coops during the day and covering any unattended eggs. Cheekie Buggers!!
