ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS ISSUE???

he just didn't think they lay eggs very well.

I'll face that argument after my Mille Fleur d'Uccles grow up. And I'll point out that I feed them and care for them and THEY'RE PRETTY!!!
And then I'll point out that they're cheaper and less trouble than 2 teenage DD's, too...

Wegotchickens..... let's hope they DON'T get together

They'd support each others opinions and gang up on us!

My grandparents stopped by a couple of days ago and my grandfather looked at my pond and said (and mind you it looks like hell right now because it's still full of leaves that fell in the fall) "hmm, that's nice, why didn't you get a filter for it?"
roll.png
He just won't shut up about that now! Feels he's more than justified in his thinking now that someone else shares his opinion

Whatever..... Like Cartman says " I'll do what I want!!!"

I guess I'm lucky that DH is out of town so much! He comes home looks around and sees the new stuff I've done or the pile of materials for the next project and simply accepts, since he knows if he doesn't like it, I'll just wait till he's out on rotation again!
Haven't had any problems with the chickens (mainly becasue he can eat eggs 3 times a day) except that the lights from the brooder had to be on all nite (he likes the whole house dark when he sleeps)

Seriously, he loves animals as much as I do and would have more of them, especially dogs and snakes. I am the one that draws the line there. No more dogs or cats, (he agrees about the cats!) except fosters or temporary rescues and for now, no snakes because I don't have the time to spend handling them to tame them.

My landlord is pretty cool about it too, except when his busybody sister and GF (who occupy the other 2 houses on the property) told him I had 200 chickens, a herd of ducks, 4 goats and a "bunch" of giant 8ft lizards all living in the house!
I showed him my coop with less than 50 chickens, some of which are proving to be roos and will soon be heading for the flock at the stables, the 6 ducks, all neatly penned and the 2 goats and 3 4 to 6 ft lizards (only the lizards are inside the house) He was fine with it, except he wants me to move the coop and duck pen farther from the house. I told him that I planned to as soon as they either grew their feathers in, or the weather made up it's mind to be above 45 at night. (extension cord)
I think Sis and GF are vying for his time, attention and funding for THEIR yard/house projects and resent the fact that I just go ahead and do mine. (I did have permission to make animal pens, as long as they were neat looking and well kept) I asked him if I could put some pea gravel down where we park the truck, as drainage off the driveway makes it muddy and he sais ok. I suggested that since the main driveway serving all 3 houses was full of potholes, maybe we could split the cost of a load of gravel and have enough for both. He agreed, but later his GF made a comment to me about him needing to spend money on HER house before he spends any on MY driveway. She and Sis don't get along too well either and I get stuck in the middle.
Needless to say, although I love this place because it's only a few minutes from work and I HATE the hassle of moving, I am keeping my eyes open for a new place.

Your response: I am an adult, this is my place too, and if I want a pond with dolphins, I should be able to make my own decision as long as I am the one who cares for them. Now if its a problem to build me a coop, thats fine, I'll just pay someone to build one, or do it myself. Thank you!

Ok, here comes the "DH" point of view.
Well....maybe I'm the wrong one 'cause they're "MY" chickens.
How much space do you have? (acres vs lot)
There does come a time (which I haven't found either) where enough has to be enough. IF you are able to show a profit, no matter how meager, why would there be a problem? The only problem I could see is space, and in the case of waterfowl, the noise and the mess. (just butchered messy, NOISY goose) Personally I won't have ducks or geese again until/unless I have a LARGE pond.
As for DW she's just glad I have a "hobby" and not in front of TV or worse, roaming the streets. She probably enjoys the chickens as much as I do.

Sounds like my DH!

He razzes me about my houseplants and gardens as well. Would prefer a manicured all-grass lawn

Not my style... I love informal cottage gardens, worn old wood pieces and bird feeders everywhere! And he HATES my little pond I put in because I leave it natural with some native water plants, algae, a few goldfish every summer and a couple of wild frogs that showed up. He wants to pull everything out of it and fill it with chemicals and a filter and fountain so it sprays pretty blue water

Silly man

Your DH and my DH should get together! I don't have a pond, but I have a wet shaded area that I let grow wild with the stuff I've planted plus wild strawberries and violets. It has gnomes, pretty rocks, birdhouses and a birdbath scattered according to my whims. Drives him NUTS!
And if HE were planting veggies in the raised beds they'd be in neat rows, not scattered amongst companion flowers and herbs.

He's excited because the front yard is 'his' and he's gonna kill the 'weeds' to get that perfect golf-course lawn he wants.

lol.....Hubby is always complaining about the flower beds, garden...fence lines etc. etc.
He really isn't bad about it...I think he just likes to hear himself talk.....

When we first moved in here I had to push mow the whole yard which is about 5 acres(this is just the yard and around the buildings. we have 46+ acres total). I pushed it by myself. He was on the road truck driving. Some times I would just finish mowing and it would be time to start again because it took so long...
Well when hubby deployed I bought MYSELF a riding lawn mower. He came home for a 2 week leave from over seas and instantly claimed the mower as HIS!!!!
ep.gif

This from the man who NEVER pushed the mower once on the 5 acres of lawn.
Now that he uses the rider he doesn't even let me begin to think about mowing.
Last year he said if I planted one more thing in the yard he was going to mow it over....
ep.gif
(It takes for ever to mow the lawn even with the rider because of all the flower beds and gardens and what not...

)
After he said that I went to the DNR and ordered 300 pine trees and planted them all by hand...
The pine trees are still there, not a one has been mowed over, and he doesn't complain about it anymore...
Not that he would of mowed them over anyway...Like I said sometimes I think he just like to hear himself talk....blah blah blah blah.....

dang, i must be a b**ch on wheels because if he doesn't want to do something i just go ahead and do it myself.

you don't want chickens? ok, i'll eat all the eggs.

you don't want to help me build a coop? ok, i'll be in the backyard working on the coop when you want dinner here's the phone & take out menu.

you don't want to go to see this movie? cool, i'll be home in a few hours.

if my DH tries to limit me, i just laugh and do it myself without him, he usually finds his way outside to help me sooner or later.

he was dead set against getting chickens, now whenever he finds a bug or other juicy morsel he runs to the coop to give them his prize find. he brags to all his friends about all the eggs we get and he's the one who gives most of the eggs away.

see? the woman is always right.
