Anyone else killed a batch of baby chicks?

New to raising chickens and just killed 20 of them because it was too hot. I feel absolutely awful. Anyone else ever done this? Just looking to feel a little better about it I guess.
I have and I'm not new don't feel bad especially being new at it. It happens to the best of us i over heated my second hatch of this season and I've been hatching since I was a teenager and I'm 41yo just slow down next time and never set eggs when you're tired or distracted

Welcome!
We've made many mistakes here, and learn from every one of them. I'm so sorry for your chicks, and that you've had this experience!
If you would like input on how your brooder is set up, pictures will be helpful here.
All the best,
Mary
Thank you. I'll explain what happened but please understand I had to make the best of a bad situation. I was supposed to pick them up at the post office in the morning and drop them off at a friend's house. Instead, he couldn't take them until 2, which I found out that morning. I couldn't leave them at the post office all that time so I picked them up. My parents refused to let any birds in the house so I wasn't sure how to keep them warm. I was concerned that the 70 degree high that day would be far too low and it would kill them. I kept them in my car and would occasionally run it with the heat on high. The temperature was stable and the chicks were doing great all day until right before I left. They were fine 15 minutes before I was going to leave, chirping and running around. My car had just started to get in the sun and the temperature inside spiked. When I went out to leave, they were all dead. I know it sounds stupid to leave animals in a hot car, but I thought that was the best way to keep them from freezing to death. I feel horrible because it's common sense that the sun would heat up a car, I just had no idea it would do it that quickly. I just feel awful about it.

I haven't heated mine too bad, but we did accidentally gas most of one of my batches. Apparently there were fumes in a part of our basement we were oblivious to. It stinks, but don't let it ruin this for you
