Anyone else not like The White House on The Hill?

Okay but you do realize he would know when his kids can and can't hold them and he's there filming it unless anything goes wrong !
Okay, but do you realize it can just happen all of a sudden with birds. Before we stopped letting inexperienced kids mess with our birds, we had one that dropped with no warning. Birds aren't going to stop running away and shout for a time out to calm down

My girlfriend's 4 y/o son loves playing with my hens, he was handling them when they were chicks. He plays with my coons. He was taught from a young age animals are not toys and can not be treated as such.

He loves going into the chicken run, squatting down and letting the girls come up to get petted on. He walks my coon around on her leash and lets her dig and look for bugs. Of course neither are done unsupervised.

Ok so you've been in the same situation ? When your teaching kids to be gentle with animals they're not gonna be the first couple times! but they'll get the hang of it ! And as long as your careful about it they'll be fine .

Sure they can.
They can also chase and scream at them.
I'm not against any young children looking after chickens, if they are responsible.
Sadly some aren't.
It's all part of the learning prosses

Yeah and over time they'll figure it out and learn something themselves

In my experience, the first couple of times is always enough to cause an accident.
I had a young boy once drop a big stone on my dog's head. Since then I've been extremely careful about letting any children near my animals.

Accidents usually happen too fast to stop.
But again. It depends on the child. If you think you can trust your child, sure.

I was 7 when I got my first chick. My cousin and I got them from a family member, and we were playing with them in her room, with our barbies and everything all over the floor. My cousin reached over to grab something and squished my baby chicks head with her knee, by accident! I was devastated. But we should not have been unsupervised either.
The next time I raised chicks, I was 10 and I was old enough to know better. Two died unfortunately but, the one that lived was my "Big Mama" (in my avatar). Wonderful experience!

Which is why I thought it was going to be easier introducing chicks to my boys. But... no. They are not allowed to interact and if so, supervised with distance. They help me with their food and water prep though.
